This will do exceptionally well at filling in for the discontinued and poorly demanded Jaguar E-Pace.

The defender is super popular. A few petrol and 2 cylinder petrol and diesel options without electric motors will be excellent.

Both will have strong demand and sell well. I don't think specs matter much as both will be cars for owners who want street cred or love the rugged look.

Freelander became Discovery Sport. But yes a spiritual successor in the vein of a mini Defender.
But certainly not the first attempt at a smaller Defender.

So Baby “D” vs Baby “G” who will come out on top?

The G-Wagen is exceptional. I can’t name any great looking SUV from Mercedes afterwards nor from BMW or Audi.

Germans in general were never able to create a proper alternative to the Range Rover, Defender nor their own G-Class.

After all the crap X1’s, X2’s, GLA’s, GLB, GLC, Q2,Q3… and so on
I don’t think any of them are able to build a desirable rugged crossover.

The GLB-Klasse is essentially a “Baby G” but executed badly see the EQB for making it worse.
A baby “G” can properly write the wrongs in this segment.
BMW would rightly continue to make their offerings as more sportier than rugged and boxy.

JLR won’t e able to sell enough of these.

It will best the baby G by offering good old fashion ice variants like 2l petrols and diesels. I wonder what engine the flagship will have. Might they source the B58 from BMW.

It’s the right product. But it’s going to Electric apparently. Industry talk indicates JLR’s current issues are apparently worse than reported.

Did I ever say how much I love Land Rover?

Can’t wait to see it. The only sore part is what to do with the Discovery. The Defender has made it obsolete.
