...... and absolutely no surprise then it looks identical to the "new" Vanquish and Virage.

The revised Aston Martin DB9 coupe and Volante models have been spied almost completely undisguised near the Gaydon firm’s Nurburgring test facility.
The pictures reveal that the revised DB9 will feature a new look inspired by the Virage, the GT Aston launched last year to bridge the gap between the DB9 and the DBS.
The overhaul to the DB9 range is also likely to feature many of the updatesAston Martin brought in for the DBS-replacing Vanquish, including the all-new interior. It is not known however if the Vanquish’s carbonfibre bodywork and part-carbonfibre VH platform will carryover to the DB9, or if Aston will want to preserve these exclusive – and costly – updates for the £190,000 flagship.
Dynamic tweaks that could feature on the revised DB9 include the latest-generation chassis stability and traction control systems from the Vanquish, plus the revised adaptive dampers and steering system.
The Virage influences in the styling of the revised DB9 are clear. Both the front and rear ends look borrowed from the DB9‘s more expensive sibling.
The more technical looking bi-xenon front headlights are new to the DB9, as is the five-bar metal grille and the bumper at the front. At the rear, the Virage carryovers include an angular diffuser with integrated twin exhausts, plus the revised taillights. One bespoke feature to help differentiate the DB9 is a pronounced ‘kick’ at the edge of the bootlid.
Aston engineers are likely to have liberated more power from the DB9‘s 5.9-litre V12 engine, which produces 470bhp in the current car. Updates to the engine for the Vanquish included variable valve timing, new heads, bigger inlet valves and throttle bodies, and new manifolds.

I don't get it anymore. Before we had the DB7 and the Vanquish. Two very different cars. Later we had the DB9 as the DB7's successor, and a sporty and aggressive version of it, the DBS replaced the Vanquish. Now the new Vanquish came out first, and the new DB9 will just be a watered down new Vanquish. What is the point of that? This time they are too similar, if not nearly exactly the same.

Hilarious....I think Aston is stuck. They don't know where to go design wise and their V12 has reached its expiry date. Its still a beautiful set of cars, the most beautiful arguably, but their sales are going to come crashing down if they don't produce something truly "new" soon.

They are cutting corners and sadly they get away with it because regardless of how nearly indistinguishable their cars are, they are irresistibly hot.

I don't think they will crash down, though its not impossible, think Maybach, Lotus,...

Why the cars will continue selling is because they will continue being bought by those that already have many cars in their garage. But for the "normal rich" people, that have 2-3 cars, one being in the exotic price range, they'd look at cars like R8, 911, SL/SLS,... which are probably more reliable, easier to maintain and still cheaper for what you get, minus the exotic badge.

What I mean is you'd see more Aston Martins sitting in a garage among big Benzes, Range Rovers, Ferrari and Lamborghinis rather than beside a Golf. But beside a Golf you'd rather see an R8 sitting. Just look at Betty Swollocks' cars for example. Or even Merc1, he likes Astons and Maseratis, but it is not a GranTurismo or a Virage he has bought, but a 650i. It just is a better value.

Yeah long as I working I won't be buying an Aston or Maser, maybe a used Maser, but not an Aston. Everything is too pricey on those cars for me at this point.

I mean their sales will slide over time, not overnight.

Are people sure the camera man just took a photo of the normal Virage driving in and out of the factory, or is the Virage officially replacing the DB9? It makes very little sense to sell the DB9 and the Virage side by side.

That is what I was thinking. The Virage only came out last year too.

Virage is going to be discountinued just after one year of production. The new DB9 is destined to take its spot in the Aston Martins lineup. It is going to feature styling additions of the Virage.

If that is true then Aston-Martin is both confused and apparently has money to waste, which they don't.

Very confusing and it doesn't need to be. DB9 500hp, Virage 550hp and the Vanqish at 600hp + is how it should be.

That is true, try to go to any AM dealer and try to make an order for Virage. They will tell you exactly that.
It seems like the Virage has been a mistake, a project which they decided to abbandon. That leaves us with Cygnet/Vantage/Rapide/DB9/Vanquish lineup. Virage has been supposed to be bridge between the DB9 and the DBS (Vanquish), and as such the base DB9 (the new model) is going to be less loaded than the base Virage.

Aston Martin Virage discontinued after short lifespan

It's said that middle children have it worst, and that's certainly the case for the Aston Martin Virage: after only 18 months of life and little more than 1,000 units sent into the world, it's reportedly being sent to The Great Crusher in the Sky. Anointed as a stepping stone from the slightly softer, 470-horsepower DB9 to the rowdier 510-hp DBS, it looks like the 490-hp Virage simply can't make a case for itself in light of the evolution of the DB9.

Looked at from another angle, however, what we had in the Virage isn't really going away. Speculation is that the next DB9 will get a bump to 500 hp and some One-77 styling cues, which would effectively make it the Virage – in fact, spy shots have revealed a new DB9 that looks dead-on the Virage. On top of that, with Aston said to be moving away from DB[X] nomenclature to proper nouns, even the Virage name might be retained, so we ought not tip our 40s just yet.

Not sure what to say. What was the point of the Virage. I said earlier they should have 3 cars, but maybe there should be only 2. The DB9 and the Vanquish. 510hp and 620hp, I wish with different bodies. They will at least have a different look from DB9 to Vanquish, well somewhat, but the hp numbers are just too low. Still though...nothing looks better.

Don't forget about the Vantage, which I simply adore myself. Surely, its not a 911 beater, but it has its own, unique style. AM needs more "down-market" model in order to survive, and Vantage does this job perfectely.

The "only" reason why the Vantage is not an 911 beater is because of its weight.

Aston Martin is a mess. This is the beginning of the end for the brand. They have been standing still for too long. I don't see a single spark or genius or innovation in the brand other than milking designs that have been around for almost ten year.

Hopefully their talks with Toyota will come to some agreement that will bring long term stability to the firm. AM needs a strong partner to supply them with engines, drive trains, electronic systems, and platforms for future models. Mercedes would have been an ideal partner, but they are committed in turning AMG into a multi bespoke model marque. Also Mercedes knew AM was not in the best condition from their talks.

Sad, very sad to hear this about most beautiful car in the world for me... :( Hopefully they'll get their act together...

A technology partnership with Toyota would be much great however Toyota is already in bed with BMW, and like you said Mercedes are pursuing their own agenda with AMG. This leaves Aston Martin very lonely. It would be terrible for them to face the same fate as Rolls Royce and Bentley prior to German ownership. The Arnage was beautiful during its final years but it was a Technosaurus - an outdated car with underpinnings behind times. Nissan or Honda are probably only two choices Aston Martin has. Closer partnership with Jaguar wouldn't be a good idea as it would end with Aston Martin being Astons in disguise.
