DB9 [Spy Shots] New DB9 spied undisquised

A technology partnership with Toyota would be much great however Toyota is already in bed with Toyota, and like you said Mercedes are pursuing their own agenda with AMG. This leaves Aston Martin very lonely. It would be terrible for them to face the same fate as Rolls Royce and Bentley prior to German ownership. The Arnage was beautiful during its final years but it was a Technosaurus - an outdated car with underpinnings behind times. Nissan or Honda are probably only two choices Aston Martin has. Closer partnership with Jaguar wouldn't be a good idea as it would end with Aston Martin being Astons in disguise.

Honda or Nissan do not have the fonds. Why can't Toyota do that? The LFA proves they have the know-how and Toyota has the fonds. We could end up with reliable Astons powered by Yamaha engines and Toyota handling (GT86/LFA proved).

Sorry. Made a mistake in my previous post. Toyota is in bed in with BMW. They have a partnership, thus it rules them out for Aston.

I don't think. BMW also has Rolls Royce. Toyota-BMW partnership is for BMW to get hybrid and for Toyota to get CF. It is not like they are going to build cars commonly like the GT86 and BRZ.

Aston Martin would need CF resources. Its not like getting a Toyota engine will be enough to take the brand to the top. They would need other auxiliary technologies what would make their cars light and dynamically competitive. We getting into an electric and CF arms race and Aston Martin needs a parent. Toyota wouldn't be too bad if there aren't any objections from BMW, which shouldn't given that BMW and Aston Martin don't overlap in the slightest way.

Honda has no large capacity engines that could be offered to AM except for the V10 engine designed for the stillborn NSX. But that engine might already have an owner 'wink wink'.

Nissan has nothing to offer AM now that Renault-Nissan will source all their large capacity V6 and V8 from Mercedes.

AM might be willing to settle with the Lexus V8, but they will have to persevere with their own V12 until the day of reckoning for large capacity N/A engines come.

Aston Martin was talking about having only a V12 and FI I6, half a V12. If the next generation Supra based on a BMW CF chassis, an I6 is possible, it could be then found in a Vantage successor and the engine could be turned into a V12 for Aston Martin. Top Secret Supra had a V12.

Frankly, ihave been long since disappointed with Aston. They make beautiful vehicles but will eventually need to revamp the styling range. I am glad the Virage is gone because it was a stupid model. Actually almost offensive considering what the original V8 Virage was.

I would like to see Aston bring the boxiness back into their model range. Can you imagine a re-interpretation. Glorious

I like it. But bringing back a boxy Aston Martin would be like bringing back a boxy Mercedes or a boxy 3 Series E30.

Depends on how it's finished. The F10 5 Series is a lot more streamlined and hard edged than the E60 5er. Rather the F10 looks more similar to that E39 than the E60. I think it's possible -with outgoing backwards

Your are quite right. Same goes for the E Class.

Finally, after thinking over, what Aston Martin did is totally inacceptable. Here is, in order what they did:

  • they took the DB9, gave it a "new face" with the headlights of the Rapid and called it Virage
  • then they gave the Rapid headlights to the DBS replacement and called it Vanquish, but other than that everything is still fine, because the rest of the new Vanquish is new
  • then they took the Virage, put the engine of the DBS and called it the new DB9
That is really not possible. I guess the Rapide facelift will get the new face of the Virage, which anyway already share the same headlights. What will the Vantage get? Aston Martin is going in the very wrong direction.

Yeah, It's pretty far fetched. Totally lost. This is the guy of business plan GM had during the late 80's, early 90's. Absolutely awful sort of marketing. If they continue to keep this up they'll be out of business in no time.

Wow i have missed a lot, i thought all these car bare the one 77 were the replacement of the DB9
