CLS [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS Facelift SpyShots/info

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
CLS is not a huge cash generator nor a volume puller like E. There is no point in spending awful lot of money on facelifting this car. Wait for the next generation CLS

SMH...where is this CLS hate coming from?

I loved the first CLS, but the current one is simply amazing IMO.

no hate, just second gen failed to truly capture the essence in the design of the old one, that's not to say that it's a bad design though

what i DON'T like about the new mercedes designs is that the C-class and S-class looks too similar

Same style cars are going to be the 'trend' if you can call it that for all of the auto manufacturers. They see it as 1.) Less cost 2.) Brand Recognition. You know it's a Mercedes rolling down the road when you see it. You may not know what type of Merc it is, but you'll know it's a Merc. Same goes for BMW and Audi.

I'm probably the only one, but I hate that bumper. I should just buy the current model. This is depressing.

To me the entire front fascia look like the outgoing CL class with a modern CLA blend, but i hope they make it at least look like a $80,000 car and not too close to the CLA

The new bumper is quite good. Its more sporty and better resolved. The first generation CLS had a weak front bumper but the rest of the car was a style icon imo. The second generation is more attractive overall but it is not as original which it couldn't be. Why change the successful formula. Anyway, this car is pretty up front, pretty at the rear, pretty inside... this is a pretty awesome Mercedes.

Those older style AMG rims do nothing. The desingers really need to move on to something fresh and new. Add some depth to the wheel design.

MB Passion is to announce more details about the facelift tomorrow. The 9G-Tronic is expected in several drivetrains, but not 4MATIC nor AMG nor the CLS 400 apparently.

The question then remains which CLS model will introduce the 9G in the USA? The CLS 550, maybe? :)

First details on the CLS Facelift: 9G-TRONIC and Multi-Beam LED available

Presumably on 30 June 2014, the updated CLS Coupe and Shooting Brake variant will be released, after celebrating their world premiere in London. We have the first details on the facelift.

9G TRONIC transmission now available for many engines

Mercedes-Benz launches the CLS by June 30, 2014, where we so far assumed June 23, 2014. In addition to numerous new features and details and slightly different appearance in the exterior and interior, the model now finally gets the 9G TRONIC transmission. Only the AMG versions, the CLS 63 AMG, the CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC and the CLS 63 AMG S model 4MATIC are equipped with AMG Speed Shift MCT 7-speed sports transmission, and the CLS 400 with 333 hp still uses - as all 4MATIC models - the 7G-TRONIC Plus transmission. The models CLS 220 BlueTEC, CLS 250 BlueTEC, CLS 350 BlueTEC, and CLS 500/550 receive the 9G-TRONIC. The CLS 63 AMG is omitted as a shooting brake variant, but remains in the lineup of the coupe version (see engine details below).

The front has been slightly reshaped, which also applies to the rear. The CLS will now receive a diamond grill, depending on the line in chrome version. The CLS now has the previous optional LED headlights as standard equipment, the Bi-Xenon were dropped. Multi-Beam LED headlights are optional. The 360 degree camera is now available.

Multi Beam LED: 36 LEDs per headlamp

The optional Multi Beam LED headlamp has 36 LEDs in each headlamp, 24 in each are driven independently. Using the data from a camera on the windshield a controller calculates the ideal light distribution. The active light swivles to illuminate the curve even before the steering wheel is turned to corner, and straigtens out before it ends. In cooperation with the navigation, the cornering light also helps in particularly tight curves and roundabouts. In fog, an enhanced fog lamp also ensures a better distribution of light.

:)

It refers to the premiere being on the 27th June "in London", but the 27th June is the opening day of the Festival of Speed at Goodwood, so I suspect it's actually going to be there. Goodwood ISN'T London.

I am going to the Goodwood preview day on the 26th June.

^ True, they probably meant the Goodwood FoS. :)

Lets see what the "downspeeding" with the 9G does to the specs:

CLS 500, 408 hp, 600 Nm, 9.0 liters per 100 km, 209g/CO2, 7G, 250 km/h, 4.9 to 100 km/h (from http://www.mercedes-benz.de)
CLS 500, 408 hp, 600 Nm, 8.5 liters per 100 km, 199g/CO2, 9G, 250 km/h, 4.8 to 100 km/h (from MB Passion)

Looks like the CLS 500 is 0.1 seconds faster while consuming about 6% less with the 9G.

Very happy the 9G has been launched in alot more models, which indicates it will probably be replacing the 7G across the Mercedes range in the next year or so. The consumption on the diesels are really good but I am slightly disappointed they didn't bring any major changes to the engines, the CLS500 I thought they would upgrade to 320kw/700nm as per previous S-class spec. Only new model is the CLS400 and then they bring in a new base model CLS220 with the weak 125kw engine without any power upgrades. That engine is way behind the competition, BMW has 15kw more power in new models
