E-Class W213 [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
I'm also resenting MB's focus on an overly orchestrated marketing buzz. Having marketing surrogates like Der Landgraf make the brand look better, isn't worth of the oldest automotive brand in the world.

How about Wolfgang?

Because the bigger central tachometer is a part of Daimler protfolio since..uff....
W124,W126,W140,W201,W202,W210,W211,W220,W203,W204,W221,W212.... ;)

All automatics. You don't even need a tachometer in a Benz. No point at all, the car shifts when it wants.

You guys need to watch the funf, sec video where the guy is riding inside the the E-class and the chief engineer is showing the different functions of the E-class dash, it has one of the best TFT displays around, the graphics and number of sheer functions is amazing. We will have to live with this as all luxury cars are going this way, this type of multi digital displays is available in a Passat now. The more goodies and safety features a car has the only way it can be displayed is on screens like this.

I don't like the graphics, and I have seen the vid.
I simply am no fan of the two giant rectangular screens. They're okay, but rather unsophisticated. A little line of LED around them doesn't change that.

Super Cool

only 7 days to Go

W213 its truely a shitty car to be honest..the screens are rectangular, no innovation for the driver..for eg it has pre safe which saves your ears from damage during a crash..i mean who needs that.
It has uninspiring exterior design, even though no one here has seen it yet.. Also it is not even innovative enough, even though no one has been informed on what innovations it has on board.

On the other hand the 7er, it has detachable ipad and gesture Control..now that is something to write home about.

Mercedes has lost the plot, the car is doomed Before release.

Nah, MB did the best they could. They're just a decade behind in user interfaces. They'll be ok though, no need to worry. You're right about the exterior design though. And you are also right about all this pre safe nonsense, of course.

For me - and I consider myself a hardcore MB loyalist, having driven MB products almost exclusively for the past 25 years - the latest generation of MB products and innovations has commenced to depart from the core values of what made MB strong over the course of a century: True, customer value oriented innovation, strict form-follows-function, superior quality and durability, and avoidance of anything that smells like fashion of flavor of the day.mes obvious. Similarly, why can we - in many key markets - only get a good looking E-Class with awful sports suspension, and sports grille?

You made a lot of interesting points but its this particular paragraph that I couldn't help but respond to. I cannot think of a single automotive luxury brand short of Rolls-Royce that hasn't had to "modernize" its core values over the last 25 years. Competition has become much more fierce, there are far stronger global considerations to take into account, and buyers are now more price sensitive than before (in the USA market at least). And now that I think of it even Rolls-Royce has debuted several tacky versions of its vehicles to appeal to new money.

The fact that you wrote "strict form-follows-function" was especially striking to me. Do you really and truly think most customers are looking for that now? Mercedes can't get away with telling consumers they don't need cup holders anymore and making interiors that many describe as "austere". Brand managers have become acutely aware its "old-person brand" stigma was going to cause trouble over the long run. And really, it's this generation that is departing from superior quality and durability? The cost-cutting response efforts that happened due to the W140 disaster and the changing automotive landscape kicked that decline off 2 decades ago.

Things like customer value oriented innovation should never change, I agree; however, watching the brand evolve into a more rapidly-changing company is the price of doing business nowadays, imo.

Just look at this user interface, it is jaw dropping:

i mean look at the clearity,,the easyness of it.. i mean its rectangular in the right way..

MB will not be OK come september when the new 5er is out..i Think sales will be 2-3 Worldwide of the E class..no one would want to own one, after the 5er drops a bomb.

I hope someone at Mercedes is Reading this, they should make the purchase or order non refundable and sell as many as they can from februari to september, cause otherwise they will have so many canceled orders.

My god i just can not stop looking at the UI of the BMW..

I am also waiting on someone to make non rectangular screens..

BMW will probably be the first, i mean the whole interior lay out of cars has been rectangular cause you actualy sit side by side..

We should all sit behind the driver in a singular line..to accomodate the standing screen..

Perfect narrow and high cabin concept car for this revolutionary move is ( drumroll) :

^ That's what you call clarity??

I have to look twice to see where the needles are pointing on the dials. Did they hire a graphics designer from Honda or what?

I tend to agree with a car magazine commentator's view on the interior of the G11/12. It was almost like BMW panicked after seeing the W222 S Class and decided to throw as much toys and tech to the G11/12's interior in the hope of trumping the S Class. Sorry guys, but the S Class' interior has an air of elegance and serenity that the G11/12 just can't match.

5er was on par 20 years ago and has been the class leader with some margin since the E39.....which is roughly 20 years ago.
All the E-class models since W210 have always been closely matched to the 5-series, the 5-series hasn't been the dominant car in this segment. If you look at the history of comparison tests from various magazines over the 20 years since E39, both E-class and 5-series have been beating each other, its always been close, the 5-series hasn't won all comparison tests, even when there has been overlapping model changes. Each model series has had strengths and weaknesses against the other car.

Just like the 7er vs S class, yet the S class somehow is the ultimate class leader? Please bro.
If S class is, so is the 5er.

Either way, good to see the strong BMW hate over here. Wouldn't want to see it any other way. The Artist crying like he does gives me a warm, familiar feeling.

THE best quote of the day.
It's not going to get any better Artist. You lost this round. Sorry, but that happens when you are rusty.

Obviously, he is being sarcastic;)

Errrrrrrr... enough with the "love" posts towards BMW in W213 thread

Back to W213, I hope they release the pics rear light graphic. Very curious about how it looks...

They're just a decade behind in user interfaces.
Check that video again and compare it to the 7-series, this E-class user interface on the command system is totally different to that used on other Mercedes models. It has more detailed and logical menu structures. Plus the pads on the steering wheel make scrolling through the menus look very easy and intuitive without taking your hands off the wheel. The 7-series advantage maybe is its touch screen interface but the gesture control is a gimmick, it has no advantage to use in comparison to the normal wheel scrolling and selection. It is used for volume control, swipe ending of phone calls, some navigation turning off and on functions and also for the parking camera for swiveling the vehicle around on the screen.

Its the same with the S-class vs 7-series, I don't think the S-class has been the ultimate class leader either, the 7-series has always been the S-class most deadliest rival, from the E23 up to now, its always been close. That's why I love BMW and Mercedes so much, always been the best cars in the world, each outdoing each other in some ways. We wouldn't have the technology and safety in small cars if it wasn't for these 2 car makers filtering their innovations from S-class/7-series to smaller cars like Polo or Clio.

We have to thank their brilliant engineers and designers for making us so excited to talk about each new model arrival!

You are of course right, but the sane talk is so not fun.

Either way, 5er vs E is always the best battle between the two brands (well and Volvo of course @KiwiRob ). The middle ground between MB's best (S) and BMW's best (3). The 2016 fight is going to be epic beyond words.

2016 is going to be a f-cken fantastic year for executive saloons, new Jag XF, new Volvo S90, new Mercedes E-class and new BMW 5-series all battling it out for the crown, we are spoil for choice, all of them look great.
