X5 [Spyshots] Next generation BMW X5 (3rd gen) 2015?

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Pretty much what I expected, except for the engine. I have never seen this cover before. Its possible this is just a different cover on the N63Tu for the X5, but BMW traditionally doesn't do that. Anyone have any ideas?

Here is the N63 in the E70 X5 for comparison

Nope - Johannesburg, South Africa
i assume your roads are quite wide and cities are designed to properly accomodate cars?

Yeah it does sound like he lives where roads in general are quite wide. I reckon the Cayenne is about the easiest big SUV to place on the road but even then its not nearly as easy to drive quickly down a back road compared to a 5 series caliber car.
i drive e39 and where i live (and i bet in most of the europe) in some roads you just have to squeeze through traffic and other cars, and even my e39 feels big. im not even talking about parking spaces, esp near the blocks where its non existent
No sir i will not ask BMW and i didn't ask anyone :) ,, i am only have opinion about this car
and i dont disagree with you, i think suvs shouls be made for offroading, but as jlbm mentioned ppl dont buy them for that, but for other reasons

The interior is a big let down. I hope it gets better with the official pics, but the entire layout is just boring, if not poor desgined.

Not going to lie, when i first looked at it I thought it was a V6. But upon closer inspection there are 8 indentations (I am assuming that is not a real intake manifold)

Another interesting thing I just noticed is that it appears that there are three pipes on the left side, but I can only make out one on the right side. The un-matching indentions on the cover in front of the engine seems to confirm this. The outer pipe on the left and the single pipe on the right are most likely intake pipes. Its the inner pipe on the left that is throwing me off. It isn't a charge cooler for the N63, because it appears to be going in the wrong direction (N63's goes outward, this seems to be moving towards the center of the car) and it is also lacking a second one. I am really starting to think this is not an N63Tu. Whether it is a further update of the of the N63 or a completely new engine, I have no idea. Whatever it is this has definitely made me interested in the new X5.

I wo
v6?:ROFLMAO:

I would say our roads are of medium dimension, between European and US standard.

Why do I feel somewhat "worried" about the dash? Something just doesn't make me feel at ease...

Will have to see when the Hi-Res photos becomes available @ launch. Holding thumbs for it cannot disappoint.

Agree Human. The current Cayenne interior feels much more special than this F10 cut and paste. Current 6er still much more special by the looks of things at this stage. But I will wait for official pics before a final opinion.

The interior is - as you can see - "inspired" by 5er / 7er, done in typical X5 style (double vents etc) - and featuring BMW's latest trend: self-standing iDrive screen. Very familiar stuff. Instant BMW feeling.

Obviously BMW is staying true to itself: providing more utilitarian & ergonomic cockpits that the rivals, with less "kitsch" & detailing. Which I guess it's not a good thing in the premium segments. :bored: But until the cars sells well, I guess BMW won't change the formula. Why should they if customers are buying cars despite the more utilitarian & less premium look / feel in the cabin. More profit for BMW. :D It's a business after all.

But it would be nice to at least offer some optional premium upgrades beyond current level (eg. more metal / ceramic buttons, switches, levers, pedals ... more leather & wood). At least up the game within Individual options. But I guess the demand is not that strong at all for such options ... So, it's all down to business model again.

"In the eye of the beholder" or rather then each to his own BUT IMO agree 100%. Actually to such an extend that for me the Cayenne (Full House) cabin beats em all including the newest RR & RR Sport.

Have to have this as a cockpit:)

Material, tactile and perceived quality has to reflect more F01 than any other "inspiration" from the brand portfolio. Nothing less will impress against the likes of the Cayenne, RR Sport or ML's of late.

And you can take that to the bank BMW;)

Weren't they inspired by the X5 layout to begin with ?

I guess that is the problem. The current X5 was the trend setter, in terms of interior styling, of the F Series. You can clearly see it in the steering wheel, the nav screen integration, the gear shifter and the big trim across the dash.

Now the F15 should preview the new BMW design language for its interiors. The problem is that it seems there is no new interior design, but a small evolution of the current theme. And that is what we have here, the same steering wheel with a new alu insertion, new nav screen as in the 6er, and the same controls and central tunel than on the 5er. The only new design cues is the air-vents design and the weird trim across the dash.

Of course, it is not worst thing in the world, but when you see the excellence on the fit and finish of the Cayenne, and the RR Sport, you expect BMW to follow. Even the ML has a more attractive interior design than the F15.
