Subaru will extend its “STI” offerings in its home market with the introduction of the limited edition Legacy STI S402 Sedan and Touring models that will be available for sale in Japan from June 27. The S402 Legacy STIs are equipped with the same 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine as the US and European Impreza STIs, but in this case, output is restricted to 282Hp at 5,600 rpm and torque to 392 Nm (available between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm). Power is delivered to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

Other mechanical upgrades include a sport suspension, revised steering system (13:1 ratgio) and more powerful six-pot front and two-pot rear Brembo brakes. Apart from the subtle STi bodykit that includes a carbon-fiber front spoiler, the S402 Legacys feature wider fenders (+20mm) that host a set of beautiful 18-inch BBS alloys wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires (235/40R18). Inside the most prominent features are the leather front bucket seats, the MOMO steering wheel and the “S402” plates.

What a bloody awesome car! :icondrool

:t-cheers:

Wow...............:icondrool:icondrool:icondrool

I really really want this car, this is exactly what I have been hoping for ages. If we ever get them in Australia, I will trade my Legacy/Liberty for one of these babies.

Surely Legacy must be one of the best kept secrets in the repmobile-size segment. Larger than a 3er, B7 A4 or C-Class it really competes with the Mazda 6 MPS most closely. It's kinda Mondeolagunamiddlemanagement proportioned.

That's where any similarity ends however as the Legacy displays a level of chassis dynamics coupled with just the right level of civility that is much more in keeping with premium models half a size down (namely the aforementioned German protagonists).

A standard 2.5 GT rides amazingly well for a car of this level of dynamic prowess. It must give the S402 engineers plenty of scope of sharpening the handling capabilities to the desired STI levels without creating a bone-jarring boy racer. What's interesting about the Legacy is that it is quite an adjustable and predictable car to throttle inputs; one has to be quick to catch the lift off oversteer but it's not tank-slapper quick. [Well that depends... ;)]

I'd love to give one a drive. I figure this car will be more glued to the road, with less body-roll so potentially more challenging to drive on its predictably high limits.

If anything, I expect it have the compliancy and ride qualities of the new WRX STI, firm but better damped and not as uncompromising as STI models before.

Oh, and as for that new WRX STI. I at last got my drive in the new car. 3.5 hours worth. And, as a road car it is simply the hatch to end all hatches. It's awesome.
