Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

They’re the same car tho with modifications. That is how it’s marketed as well. If it were truly a different car there would be far more differences in the sheetmetal, but I get what you’re saying about the differences in tuning and suspension etc. A more bespoke GLS Maybach would only use the GLS chassis not the body and same interior hard points. It’s going to always be hobbled by the fact they’re using a GLS to modify as a base.

M
You’re right (y)

It’s funny If you compare them, everything you touch in the Maybach is covered with fine Nappa leather, If you touch the same places in the GLS you feel immediately the hard plastic.

The marketing department of Mercedes Benz is a real mess, no wonder they had to fire most of them.

Right. I know Mercedes can do this but I think they’re still shell shocked over the W240 models failure. The possibilities are endless tho. Hell borrow Aston Martin’s V12 if you have to.

M
The W240 was too expensive, also they should have done a coupe and a convertible.

The right price would be about 20% more than the Arnage, in Switzerland it was almost the double If I remember correctly.

Now they’re shocked how well the S-Maybach sells.

Lol, they have a perfectly good V12s of their own. One they sell to Pagani, no less. Modernise it. Add that 48V mild hybrid to it, so it can power e-ABC, and charge an extra $150,000 for it to be fitted to the Maybach. Again the people that buy those cars, are not price sensitive. They'll pay for it.

I agree 100%with you.

The GLS should be going after the Range Rover. The Maybach would be one step further.

The current GLS should be called GLE 580 L like on the S-Class.

The rear seats of the GLS Maybach combined with the smooth ride, were the reasons why I preferred this to the Cullinan and Bentayga ( both can’t be ordered with luxury seats BTW).

The Range Rover is available with these seats. But the ride is much firmer.

GLS positioning needs to be done with care. It can’t too far upmarket or sales will start to falter in its most important market, the U.S. It’s a family hauler and needs to be priced appropriately. That doesn’t mean higher trims can’t go after the Range Rover though.

The current GLS should be replaced with a GLE LWB, they did this with the R-Class only the LWB had a spacious 3. row.

They have to be very careful with the pricing of the GLS because as far as leases it is much more expensive than an X7. What annoys me most of the GLS is the fact that the lower part of the doors, which is a large area is ALL hard plastic.
You mentioned the most annoying thing of this car. (y)
And I think the 3. row is cramped. Especially If you compare it with an Escalade.

8 inches more wheelbase would be fine.

Currently it’s in no man’s land, to cramped for a proper 3 row SUV, to big for Europe.
And to wear the S moniker simply not luxurious enough.

I’m saying that if cost is an issue, they do have an agreement with Aston vs spending money updating their own V12.

A little from the past. I had forgotten how cute the original SLK was.

Look, the grille sits neatly above the license plate and not half in it

Is this the first time with the new grille almost completely uncovered?? Or is the AMG grille different?

^
It appears to be the AMG grill. The traditional Mercedes grill with the logo on the hood needs to be offered as an option on the S63 IMO.

Good chance this facelift is using the new flat-plane V8. AMG is saying thay are going to push its power beyond the limits of the GT Black Series.
It would be great if they could ditch the heavy P3 hybrid system and adopt the lighter axial flux motors from the new GT.

With Aston Martin already crossing the 800-hp mark, it’s no surprise Mercedes-AMG is promising more power from its next V-8. Without revealing specifics, AMG Director of Vehicle Development Steffen Jastrow told Auto Express the upcoming eight-cylinder mill will pack a greater punch than what the Black Series had. Engineers in Affalterbach have already "defined power in a range, and the upper limit is, of course, higher than what we know today."

I think they will probably upgrade the P3 system with the new YASA motors and lighter NMC batteries, rather than just get rid of the P3 system entirely. Maybe upgrade the P3 set up to an 800V system or something.

Who knows.
I don't think the facelift S will be the one to pioneer it though. They might start doing it with the performance cars like the GT/SL63 E performance.

Possible, although more subtle, clues that lurk under the camo ?:

Not a stringently truncated Kamm tail-but rather a somewhat more rounded solution.

Hood ventilation outlets.

No overdone front fender air vents.

Will it be the exterior design "tour de force" initially anticipated ? That will almost certainly depend on how it is configurated.

I dunno, that pug nose is still there. All I know is that it's time to see it and the new GLC EV and the some others like the GLE facelift. Hopefully next week brings a few important debuts. It's time to get on with it, if it is really is the biggest product offensive ever. From what I can think of, and seeing that graph, we have:

4-Door EV GT
AMG GT Track Sport - Next week?
GLE FL
GLS FL
C EV
E EV
GLC EV
S FL
E63
CLE63
CLA - more variants
C FL
GLC FL
SL FL hoping this includes a SL53 replacing the SL43
VLE - ?

The future mainstays on M-B's menu will be the C EV, E EV, GLC EV, GLE EV, CLA + additional MMA vehicles. Should they fail in commercial terms, Mercedes-Benz AG will be on the threshold of a whole new "world of pain". These vehicles are not only "Ola's Last Chance". All else are sundries, relatively speaking.

I hope the GLC EV will bring in a new styling direction that will make everyone sit up and take notice. I wish that this model and upcoming C EV, E EV and upcoming MMA cars will bring success to the brand. With BMW bringing the adventurous NK models they will need all the luck they need.
