***Testdrove a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL350***

^ especially with more people choosing to downsize from V8s to V6s.

Do you think the days of Merc V8s are numbered?

I still think the SL is the most desirable model ....even with its less-than-successful face lift.

You're right Rob, we're one of those people. :D

I'm honestly waiting to see this car quite eagerly... If a V6 can produce such decent numbers, there is really good reason to downgrade (for environmental reasons). Besides, my dad is getting on with age, he would probably prefer a boulevard cruiser than a outright sports car (our Sport GT).

Great review wimmer, nice photos to..

So, what makes me think the SL350 isn`t equipped with ABC suspension, a faster steering rack and quicker breakes like it`s bigger brother the SL550.

I`ll bet the 550 is more driver oriented.., whats your opinion on that..

Nice read as always:usa7uh::t-cheers:

You got me worried about the handling? u didn't try the sport setting Chris right? :D

I didn't think of that when driving the car but I am pretty sure there must have been a button that would have changed the mode of the suspension. :eusa_thin

That said, the car didn't handle badly but I was simply expecting more based on the positive reviews.

Could be, but I suspect I missed a button that would change the mode of the suspension. :usa7uh:

I think the SL350 might actually handle a bit better than the SL550 because of less weight upfront (lighter V6 compared to the V8).

The SL350 doesn't come with ABC as standard right? i think it'd help a lot if it equipped with it:t-cheers:

Hi,

Will post them ASAP. My internet is a bit slow at the moment and even though your files are small in size I can't seem to download them right now. Will try to in a few hours. :t-cheers:

Thanks Jack! Those kind words mean a lot! :)

I think the GL suits you perfectly, Jack. Plus you can't argue with massive interior space, great offroading capability (in case you need it), towing capacity and of course the character of that V8.

The SL350 and GL550 are totally different cars but both very fun in their own way. I drove the GL320 CDI twice and I loved it!
See my latest post on the SL board. Talk about a turnaround wimmer, I was tempted and was totally taken by the SL550. It is the 2008 but for the price it is a steal.

I cannot quite warm up to the grill on the'09. That single horizontal piece with the big star just does not fit my eyes. It is also a little too NASCAR looking to me. Some partiality may be showing...:-)

I hear you. The new SL has slowly grown on me but the original R230 simply is a stunner. Man you're lucky! :D

Thanks! When you are 76 you don't have a lot of time to fool around with so I went for it...:-) It may be the first of next week for delivery... car is in San Francisco and has to be transported to Denver (6-800 miles or so) by truck and they wait until they have a full load with the way fuel prices are going nuts here lately.

The Canon is crying for some action...:-)
