Pebble Beach, CA/Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 14,2025… ince its North American debut on the misty coast of Monterey, CA, in 2018, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe has been acclaimed for its graceful styling, strong performance, and advanced technology. Today, BMW returns to Pebble Beach to unveil a very special limited-edition 8 Series: the 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage. The M850i Edition M Heritage evokes the original 8 Series from the 1990s through five historic paint finishes from BMW Individual. The interior features M sport seats and Alcantara trim, while special wheels and exterior design elements round out the exclusive profile.

Limited to just 500 units distributed to a few select markets around the world, the M850i Edition M Heritage promises to reward drivers not only with the extraordinary driving experience unique to the 8 Series, but also the satisfaction and pride of owning a rare and special BMW.

Production of the M850i Edition M Heritage begins in November 2025, with deliveries expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

The M850i Edition M Heritage may be ordered in any of five historic shades that were available on the original E31 8 Series that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989: Bright Red, Mauritius Blue metallic, Cosmos Black metallic, Oxford Green metallic, and Daytona Violet metallic. These BMW Individual paint finsihes are included in the price of the Edition M Heritage.

Whichever shade the customer ultimately chooses will be complimented by the standard M carbon roof, featuring exclusive M tri-color accent stripes. Distinctive bi-color Orbit Grey 20-inch dual-spoke alloy wheels Stye 895M wrapped in summer performance tires als set the M850i Edition M Heritage apart.

The exterior design of the M850i Edition M Heritage is further enhanced by the standard M Sport Professional package, which includes M Sport brakes with black calipers, M Shadowline lights, and Extended Shadowline exterior trim.

Moving inside, the M850i Edition M Heritage features unique seating, upholstery, and trim elements not available for order on other 8 Series models. The driver and front passenger are provided M Sport seats finished in BMW Individual Black Full Merino Leather and Alcantara, with a diamond-shaped upholstery pattern. Alcantara also graces the headliner, dashboard, and upper door panels. The seats, door panels, and seat belts all feature M tri-color stitching, and there is a special, non-illuminated M badge in each front seat headrest.

The center console is finished in a unique matte-finish carbon fiber. The glass shift lever and iDrive control lend a touch of elegance to the assertively sporty interior appointments. The cupholder cover and the doorsill plates are inscribed with “M850i Edition M Heritage” and “1/500” script, to remind everyone aboard of the Edition’s rarity.

The M850i Edition M Heritage is available in a single, fully-equipped configuration. This means features such as a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and the Driving Assistance Professional Package are included. The customer need only select an exterior color.

Of course, the Edition M Heritage brings the formidable power expected of any top range BMW performance car. Under the sculpted hood lies a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 producing 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. All that firepower is sent through an 8-speed Steptronic transmission to BMW’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The result is 0-60 in just 3.9 seconds on to a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.

I'd love to see a successor in the form of an 8er/i8 GC that would complement the G70 7er. A good deal lower and shorter. Gunning for the upcoming AMG.EA 4 door GT, the VAG "J Cars" and the Polestar 5.

I suspect, however, that there is a fat chance of this happening. Or...?

The GC has nothing to do with the 8er. They used the worst and ugliest of the 3 bodies for the edition.

I’d have preferred the 2 doors coupe.
