Hot! TOKYO Motor Show - New Honda Prelude

The GR86 will be pulled as well in Europe, but I heard that they’re going to introduce the GR Corolla here.

The GR Yaris sells like hotcakes, here on the lakelucerne they’re everywhere, first thing they do, is to change the exhaust.

If you drive 30km you’re able to see at least a dozen of them.

Except for the Type R Civic they dont have any cars that I can think of that are performance cars.

The 1990s to mid 2000s were their heyday and they had some fantastic cars, Integra R, S2000, Civic R, NSX, CRX. So many amazing sports cars with screaming 8000rpm plus VTec engines.

I used to love Honda when I was in my 20's they were the best Japanese brand for high performance cars that everyone could afford.

Honda lost their branding focus in many advanced markets when they became solely and obsessively focused on producing large cars for mass American consumption and small cars for mass Asian consumption. They completely abandoned the performance and engineering focus that set them apart from their Japanese and Korean counterparts.

The band literally almost died in Australia before a major overhaul of their model line up, pricing and distribution network in the last 3 years. It still remains a shadow of its past though as it offers little that Mazda and Toyota don't already offer at lower prices.

It’s interesting that they lost the plot not only in Europe.

As you say, because of Akio Toyoda and his big influence, they’re really producing some interesting cars.

On the other hand, they screw some other cars, the European version of the Prado Land Cruiser is ridiculous. The 2.8L Diesel is way to weak.

The even more crazy part is that Honda did not even try to maximise their involvement and world championship winning success in F1 with Red Bull. There are serious flaws within the product planning and marketing departments.

It's like the motorsport division of Honda is a different company to Honda Motor Company, there seems to be a ZERO link with the production cars and motorsport vehicles which is a massive let down, especially what happened in the past with the brilliant engines and suspension layouts on the basic models (VTec, double wishbone suspensions all round on FWD models) were taken from F1 tech and knowhow.

Toyota seems to be bringing more of their motorsport division to the road than Honda with their GR models.

The orders for the CLA are abysmal, If the same happens with the GLC EV then it might become very ugly for both.
Can you comment on this? Orders are going wrong with this one too? I thought they said they were happy with the orders (whatever that means).

Since the NSX GT3 is phasing out, it's really only the Civic which offers a direct link. F1, IndyCar and Super Formula engine supplier doesn't translate well to your road cars (IMHO), the Super GT Civic RG-T is nothing to do with the Civic Road Car, and the LMDh is badged as an Acura, which does nothing for anyone outside of the USA.

... the Civic has generally done alright in TCR, but TCR doesn't get the eyes on it that pretty much all of those other series do.

How odd this looks compared to all its predecessors, which exemplified what an iconic, timeless coupe should look like.
We'll have to see it in person to understand if its design lives up to expectations.

No Sunroof, and he doesn’t like that.

Honda is so weak. This car is not befitting of the name so far. Hopefully there are some more true performance variants coming. The Civic Type R drivetrain just has to be offered in this car at some point.
