[Video]: MotorTrend Reviews the Audi RS7 vs Porsche Panamera Turbo

The RS7 is a sledge hammer in a straight line and the fact that it destroys it's immediate rivals (CLS63 / M6 GC) in a drag race is still quite a feat for Audi. If I were buying a car such as the RS7 I would hardly care about track capability, but with that being said, the Panamera does sound and look more exciting on the track despite it's horrendous design. However, if this was the Panamera Granturismo, this decision would be one sided.

RS7 from the video not have RS sports suspension plus with DRC.

RS7 without this suspension is like a boat!

Sounds like the RS7 is a mess on the track. Porsche, still rules.

Dynamic Ride Control suspension will cure almost all the issues they had on the track but at the expense of the actual ride quality, catch 22 but I'm willing to bet the rubber on the Porsche is better to begin with.

Anyway who in their right mind takes a 2 ton monster to the track, the rubber would be toast in less than 30 minutes hammering around the track. Better to enjoy their space, equipment and their monstrous overtaking ability.

Exactly. You don't buy a RS7 to drive on a track. My God that car looks so sweet and is wickedly fast in straight line.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. So now you're telling me it is ok to be a straight line specialist? This is the same thing AMG used to excel at (only) but got put down for by nearly everyone here. Now that Audi's ultimate can't keep up with a Porsche on the track, it is better to concentrate on straight-line speed. If you can't take a RS7 to the track the blazing speed of the S7 should be enough for overtaking 99% of the cars on the road IMO. What is the extra expense for on the RS7 then?

you dont buy panamera to drive on track either

cars of this type are not made to be good on track as their primary objective. so their performance on track is rather a side effect of good/bad engineering in general. panamera manages to be better on track while being more comfortable on road so therefore is a better car.

Not excuses, all I am trying to explain is that there are two suspension options available on the RS7 and the DRC does help in the grip/handling department but robs the car of a decent ride IMO. Now if you can't understand that killing one of these big heavy beasts around the track will destroy the tyres in no time at all then it's you that has a problem. LOL

I've said as much regarding the S4 vs RS4 so why would you think my opinion be any different here.

Panamera kills every Mercedes sedans not only on track, so why is the extra expense for Mercedes uber sedans if you can buy CLS 250 CDI?

Panamera is just another league, that's why it is so much expensive.

Again, who said anything about wearing about tires? If I'm going to the track then I know I'm going to wear out tires. Wearing about tires is matterless. The issue here is that as great as the RS7 is, it is still the same understeering mess that Audis always seem to be. Secondly if Audi can't balance a good ride with handling (something AMGs used to get knocked for all the time) then they have a problem. Yet you're at the ready to excuse it away, which is what you're still doing IMO. An Audi RS vehicle should be the all arounder the AMGs never were until recently. Going by what you're saying the RS7 is like an old AMG E-Class from the early 2000s....a straightline beast only.

Dumb question. What does that have to do with the Audi RS7? If you can't take a RS7 to the track then you're better off with an S7. Now an E63 is a revelation from a E550. Nice try though. Vote down all you like really don't care.

This is understeering mess at 15:10

Nice, an aftermarket/modified CLS, great example. NOT.

Question still stands, what does this have to do with Audi and the RS7 vs the Panamera? You know the title, purpose of the thread?

Or have resulted to the child like response of "he did it too"?

Was there not another test were the RS7 posted the best lap time against the M5, E63 among others so let's not talk about it being an understeery mess, tick the right box in the options list and you can make it out-perform the others on occasions.

@Merc1, mate if you ignore how useless these cars are as track day tools then I'm speechless. What's the point if a couple of hot laps renders it useless because the tyres are now shot?

Heck if you were to take an E63, RS7, etc to a track day the rest of the users would be thinking to themselves 'what a d1ck' and rightly so.

Face it all these cars excel on the public highways which was what they were designed for, sure they are excess to requirements in terms of performance and you'll struggle to use more than the likes of the S7 will have to offer but if you have the money and want it then who am I to argue.
