Phaeton Volkswagen shrinking next-gen Phaeton

The current Phaeton although an old design still has its strengths, it is built like a steel fortress and extremely comfortable and quiet. If they make the styling more noble and not just look like a larger Passat then it will be a much better car. The biggest weakness of the current car is its huge weight, 2300kg as a W12 and about 2100 as a V6 TDI which is 150 to 200kg heavier than rival luxury cars. This will surely be reduced in the next model

How come did this car continue to exist 12 years after its release while being such a flop sales wise ? Did they manage to absorb development cost and make it profitable ? And btw is the famous glass factory still producing only this car ?

They also make the Bentley Flying Spur for some markets alongside the Phaeton , I think this is what keeps the factory "active".

I have seen more Phaetons in China than I have in Germany. It would make sense to show a concept @ Beijing.

you can be right, Volkswagen has a very good deal for chauffeur services concerning the Phaeton in Germany.
i think its about 600€ lease rate including all services, within 60000 kms.
you can only lease it for one year and after the year they go to China

In Germany, VW is selling nearly the same number of Phaetons, than BMW with the 7 series, no joke. The Phaeton was not the big success, but he is a survivor...

Why shrink it, the Passat has grown in size, it's as big as an A6, a shrunk Phaeton will be too close to Passat in size.

Selling right now, or sold over the last 12 years? Because the F01 has had half that time.

Yes, I see. 171 times the 7er and 163 times the Phaeton in October 2014.

Worldwide it will be quite different though. BMW isn't as hot in Germany as the rest of the world, and Audi is. They even manage to sell more A4 than 3er in Germany. Absolutely crazy!!!! The A4 is an ancient relic.
