Today I went to see the local air show, which was of course a nice chance for me to try my hand at aviation photography. Unfortunately the weather proved challenging to say the least, as did my 3-year-old daughter (who eventually decided to take a nap in her mother's lap in the middle of all the ruckus). Still, while hardly perfect, I do think some of the pics I took are worth posting here...
A nice DC-3.
A Hawker Hurricane sporting the colours of WWII Finnish Air Force. The swastika was the symbol of the Finnish Air Force well before the guy with the funny moustache adopted it for his own purposes.
Some of the performing planes parked up.
A Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet shooting flares.
He then proceeded to fly over half-way across the Gulf of Bothnia to pick up a friend from Sweden, a JAS Gripen.
Then it was time for a Dutch F-16 to make some noise.
And for the main event... Frecce Tricolori.
Beautiful planes, beautiful flying and a very funny Italian commentator who did almost the whole thing in Finnish... sort of.
Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to stay any longer, there would have been a performance by a Polish MiG-29 and the Finnish Air Force Midnight Hawks...
