Unless houses are really different in the Netherlands

According to the same dataset (2024 edition) used for your chart, this his how it breaks down in more detail. I would draw your attention to the significant difference in dwelling stock once you take into account if the property is detached or not... the Netherlands has the lowest number of detached houses with the exception of Malta, Norway is the 6th highest.

I think it is reasonabe to say houses are really different in the Netherlands, when compared to Norway.

A quick google search of semi detached homes in the Netherlands shows many properties with what appears to be allocated parking spaces for each home.

China is making waves in the electric vehicle world by banning one-pedal drive as the default starting in 2027. This feature, often hailed as the most loved driving style in electric cars, lets drivers slow and stop by simply lifting off the accelerator. But now, this beloved convenience faces a major shake-up with safety concerns at the heart of the debate. Could Europe be next to follow suit?

This shift challenges the way millions of electric vehicle drivers engage with their cars daily. One-pedal drive made city driving almost effortless, blending regenerative braking with acceleration in a way few traditional features can match. But according to Chinese regulators, it might actually slow reaction times in emergencies, which is why the brake pedal must be pressed actively from now on.

One-pedal driving could soon be banned — here’s what it means for drivers

I don't mind this because it can be nauseating for passengers. I've been in a few Ubers/taxis with drivers that are new to EVs and it can get pretty unpleasant

You could be forgiven for thinking that electric cars might finally be gaining momentum in the US.

After all, sales of battery cars topped 1.2 million last year, more than five times the number just four years earlier. Hybrid sales have jumped by a factor of three.

Battery-powered cars accounted for 10% of overall sales in August - a new high, according to S&P Global Mobility.

And in updates to investors this week, General Motors, Ford, Tesla and other companies all reported record electric sales over the past three months.

This marked a bright spot in an industry wrestling with the fallout from still high interest rates and buyers on edge over inflation, tariffs and the wider economy.

BBC: How the US got left behind in the global electric car race

The lease of my Audi e-tron is now finished, it was picked up last week.

It was my grocery getter , as such it worked really well.

I don’t know If I am going to buy another EV as a successor for now.

Or If I should wait until something interesting arrives.

I really like the new GLC, but I want a sunroof.

As I am currently very happy with my G, I am not in a hurry.

If feels special, that’s why I love it.

You’re right (y)It’s not the fastest nor the comfiest or the most luxurious or most spacious SUV, but it feels special.

That’s why most people love it.

Here in Europe the image is not that good TBH, Soccer player or dubious businessman comes to mind.

I’ve got mine despite the strange image. BTW I don’t want to be associated with these people.

After the testdrive I came to the conclusion, that I don’t want to care what people say.

Haters gonna hate.

There are Mercedes fans that would have an absolute coronary if you tried to hand wave away a perception of superiority of the 7-series, XM, 8-series or X7 as simply "special"... I guess for the decrepit old tin shit shed that is the G-Class, it's okay...

The X7 is objectively way superior to the G ( I haven’t driven the XM, I heard it’s also a crazy animal).

I’ve driven both(X7 and G), especially the pre LCI X7 had a gorgeous interior.

I almost bought a M50d instead of my e-tron, the B57 with 4 Turbos is pure madness.

Back to the G.
The driving experience combined with the seating position of a truck, makes the experience really special.

In my case there’s this M177 lump which vibrates and rumbles all the time.

There’s no smoothness, but that’s part of the charm.

It’s the biggest opposite to an EV you can find on the market.

That is the image associated with it. Not that, that is bad. But there is nothing materially special about it. There are other SUvs with body on frame.

The biggest opposite of an EV would be a Miata or a similar lightweight manual car. Not a 2.5 ton SUV and an automatic.

There are, but with a boxy design, side pipes, and a luxurious interior there are non as far as I know.

In the SUV Class I mean( I didn’t formulated it precisely enough).but generally a Morgan is even more different, I agree.

So why discuss it here?
Because I’ve chosen it as a successor.

You’re right we’re OfT now.

So BTT.

BTW The G580EQ is currently the only G available with a discount in Europe.

And in Norway the G63 costs the double of the G580EQ because of taxes.

Björn Nyland did a couple of interesting videos of this car.

I'll take my G "vintage" with the old 2.3L il4 petrol engine. SWB + tin top. Preferably NATO khaki or olive...or forest green Generously patinaed and occasionally washed with a high pressure hose ONLY. Personally, I never really "got" the G, other than for hunters, forestry personnel, farmers, boat towers, those who navigate deserts or the military. The full fat luxury versions I really don't "get". But hey, that's just me.
