The A6 is still a terrific looking wagon but it's interior looks dated compared to the 5 series and E-class. The problem is the M versions of the 5 Touring and AMG version of E-class look stunning as well with great looking interiors. My choice by narrowest of margins is the E-class T model cause of its classy interiors.

5>A6>E

For the first time in a long time the interior of a BMW beats both Audi and MB. I really think they nailed it with the 5er.

Agree with Rolf, I would also choose Merc because of interior.
But rather sedan, or in case of estate, rather All Terrain version. :)

A6 Avant in the flesh, in a dark finish, with S-line trim does look very good.
G31... well, as a BMW fan I'm not sold on the G3x front end, although I think the Tourer looks better overall than the saloon.
E-Class looks like a containership by comparison, in as much as it looks very bulky, and for once the AMG version doesn't help.

So in looks alone, I think I have to go A6>5>E

Though obviously, if it were a buying choice is would be 5>E>A6

Yes, designo interior in w213 is awful, but for competition...
It's ridiculous to spit on this :

For sure it is "worse" than competition, yeah right...

Perceived opulence is one thing, style is another.

"For the first time in a long time the interior of a BMW beats both Audi and MB."
Well I not agree that BMW beats Merc interior, but the rest is true, this part about long time...
No offence, but for me is funny when BMW fans criticize Merc interior.
BMW is sporty machine, and that's why fans love it, but in terms of luxury, comfort, they never can match Mercedes.

The F10's 5ers interior looked better than the W212 , X5's interior looks better than the GLE and 6er coupe/GC interior look better than equivalent MB's.

BMW is sporty oriented, while Merc is about luxury and comfort.
They are totally different and that's good.
Only similarities between this two is rwd.
Yet to be fair, difference in this terms are reduced compared to the past. ^^^
Merc is now sportier than before, BMW reduced gap in "Merc's" characteristics.
But still they have different character, which is good IMO.

The touch and feel of the Mercedes interior might be nice, but I think the way they "integrated" the displays in the dash is bloody awful, it's clumsy and heavy looking and basically badly resolved. I personally think it's poor design.

@Matski
Everybody has his personal taste. That's reason why there are so many manufacturers. That's also my answer to @hovabongZA about interiors.
I remeber when BMW fans criticize tablet in Merc A class, C class, but this in BMW is "fine"...
I like dual screen in Merc, need to see in real.
And dont like tablet in A class, C class, and like here where they "flying".
For me is better one solution, for you other, but not to spread the thread, everyone let say own opinion but not to spit on others.
We not yet have 5 series individual interior ( if I am not wrong ) to compare with designo interior in E class.
For me it was just funny comment about designo interior, that's all.
It's not base trim with analog instruments.
Maybe dual screens looks strangely at first, on the pics, even for me.
But when I saw it in real, first time in S class, Merc never had better solution, IMO.

I get that it's personal taste in many cases, however, introducing a very large, featureless, flat, rectangular shape.... and then trying to integrate it into the dash by lightly sculpting the leather around it looks utterly terrible and I'm surprised Mercedes couldn't come up with something that was more cohesive.

I also prefer when the instruments faces are perpendicular to the eye line of the driver. From the pictures it looks like the Mercedes display points more towards the chest of the driver where as the BMW's instruments are directed towards the drivers eyes.

FWIW I wasn't much of a fan of the way BMW handled the screen in the F10, or the F01, or that kind of "buried deep in the dashboard" look of the screens.

My Computer monitors are free standing, my TV is free standing --- I don't try and bury them in the wall, and I don't try and sculpt the plaster on the wall around them... I think a free standing display typically looks a bit more elegant, and for me personally, I think the same is true in car interiors.
