The market for whales who stranded on the beach is obviously much bigger, especially If you put a rubbish interior in to it.

I've never actually perceived the EQE/EQS interiors as being "a bad place to be". Quite the opposite-provided that they are experienced a bit more..."uncritically". What irritates is the quality of some fittings. Loose, creaking and crackling, lacking the vault-like solidity that once characterized M-B interiors. Far more "pedestrian" brands such as Skoda appear to be doing a far better job.

They’re not bad, but If a skoda which costs 4 times less has a better build quality, something is wrong.

It’s a pity skoda is not on the US market, they’d sell like hotcakes.

The BMW Speedtop Is also Sold Out

The BMW Speedtop isn’t as exclusive as last year’s Skytop. While the M8-based convertible was limited to 50 units, its shooting brake follow-up is capped at 70 cars. The targa beauty enjoyed a “hugely positive response” following its debut last year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Similarly, BMW now says the two-door wagon was “immediately sold out” after its debut on the shores of Lake Como in May.

Speaking during the earnings call about H1 2025 results, Oliver Zipse said the gorgeous gran tourer is no longer available. The firm’s CEO didn’t go into specifics about how much wealthy customers paid, but did say the Speedtop was “in the upper price range in a never-before-achieved price range.”

No surprise, really. An absolutely stunning automobile.

@bmwblog keep seeing posts about NK cars on your site but almost no mention at all to the new 4er. Is the plan for it to be fully EV still on? First test mules should be around the corner right?

Isn’t it too early? 4er is just 4.5-5 years old. Maybe next year we might see the mules, if there’s a new generation of course.

From what I read nothing until 2028 which should give first prototype sightings indeed not before 2026.

The title is kinda misleading though. Allegedly this new SUV will have three-row seating, and “rugged” design. More like Rivian R1T and R1S. They say that engineers and executives were evaluating those models and liked them a lot. So I don’t think it’s a “G Competitor”, more like a big rugged family SUV. I think building a G competitor would be kind of a crazy move since that car has gotten so iconic. There must be a REALLY solid reason for people to buy it over the G. Let’s wait and see I guess 🤣🙋🏻‍♂️

It’s gonna be really hard for it to compete with the G, since it has such a cult following and proven itself to be an icon.
I think it’s even imposible. There is no background to bring this class of vehicle.

Mercedes can be lucky, but the G-Class exists and became an icon by evulutionary “accident” along their changing lineup.

Imagine Mercedes launching this class of a SUV nowadays without the G-heritage, it would end up as another GLS or XM like crap.

XM was a disaster in sales because it wasn’t worthy of a halo M car, and it just felt more like an X8. If it was marketed as a coupe version of the X7 and had a reasonable price + more conservative design it would sell great.
When the X7 first came out it was BMW’s first attempt at a big 3-row SUV too, but it outsold the competitors. I think it’s about the overall package and having competitive price. If they do the same with this new “Rugged” SUV, it has the potential to be a great sales success. But I believe it shouldn’t be marketed as a G competitor. Let’s wait till 2029, it still can get cancelled by the executives. Who knows.

The G already has competition, I don't think there is enough space in this market segment for BMW to bring the fight to the G and the Defender.

Hopefully it’s more Range Rover style that sits up higher. Luxury rugged. I loved my x7 but wanted something with a higher seat position that wasn’t a ford or gm type car. I went with a GX550 for 30 days and traded it in. Loved the looks but the body on frame was too harsh of a ride.

People forget about China, there must be 10 brands there that have released Defender replicas, and the segment is on fire
Add to that Audi announced something similar (based on the VW Stout) and the sales success of the G-Class, and it's almost a no-brainer for BMW.

Not seen many of these on their sides to be honest. Maybe I am not seeing them because of the exposure is on inexperienced vanity owners of the G-Klasse.
