Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) and BMW Group today introduced Snapdragon Ride Pilot, the companies’ new automated driving (AD) system resulting from a three-year collaborative effort. This state-of-the-art AD system is built on Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Ride™ system-on-chips (SoCs) using the leading-edge Snapdragon Ride AD software stack co-developed by both companies. The system is engineered to meet the highest safety standards and supports AD levels ranging from entry-level New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) to Level 2+ highway and urban navigation on autopilot (NOA) capabilities. Snapdragon Ride Pilot made its global debut today in the all-new BMW iX3, the first production vehicle in BMW’s Neue Klasse and has been validated for use in more than 60 countries with expected expansion to over 100 countries in 2026. Snapdragon Ride Pilot is now available to all global automakers and Tier-1 suppliers through Qualcomm Technologies.

The development of the Snapdragon Ride AD software stack in Snapdragon Ride Pilot is a testament of global collaboration, with over 1,400 specialists from various locations, including Germany, the USA, Sweden, Romania and the BMW AD Test Center in the Czech Republic, working together for three years to bring this technology to life.

Yesterday's interview for the launch of the iX3, explains tariffs, etc.

At 12:00 in the video, the interviewer indicates that BMW is currently worth 5 billion euros more than Mercedes, (in terms of market capitalization), which has rarely happened in history, and asks about it.
It's interesting and speaks clearly about the current situation of each company.

Thinking back to the launch of the original Neue Klasse...

It shared the showroom space with the Baroque Angels, and the Michelotti styled 700 when it was released...

I like that degree of stylistic variation... I do hope we don't end up with everything being NK styled.

I wonder if we are getting an i3 closed-room preview @ The IAA?

Wouldn’t surprise me. The 3 series is a model they cannot afford to screw up so they’ll make sure general reception will be positive and not overtly divisive. To make sure that’s the case, they need to show it to people at a time when they still have time to make changes before launch. For example, the kidney grille treatment is still somewhat of a question mark and also an area where stylistic changes could still be made

Nope. As Scott said, the car is done. We’ve long since passed the point where stylistic changes can easily be accommodated.

My various periods of being very BMW affine always featured model lines throughout which designs displayed a high level of homogenity. F01/02 7er,F10+11 5er, F12/13/06 6er for example. Probably my favorite era of BMW design to date.

The X3 is the best selling model worldwide and they did screw up certain parts. More important than the 3er these days.

More like not at all. It's being presented in months.

Homogeneity in itself is fine, it doesn't make for good of bad designs on it's own. Some of my favourite BMWs are from very much same sausage different length eras, but I didn't have to live through it, I didn't have to live through nothing being fresh. In more recent times the expansion of the range with new or spin-off models has kept things interesting - but a contraction of model variants and the slimming down of the range combined with everything basically getting the same treatment will get stale really quickly.

BMW to launch 40-plus new cars by 2028 - all with their own look

Neue Klasse design language will be rolled out to every BMW, but the firm will avoid a 'Russian doll' approach

“We have grown [our range] in the last couple of years and in the last decades, and the secret to that success is that we offer real choices to our customers. We offer a family resemblance, but it's not Russian dolls. We’re going to continue in that vein with this new family.”

I think they will share similar fascia but with slight variation in headlight graphics and kidney size.
