Concept BMW Concept Skytop

This image shot looks great and I do think this car has the face that the 7-series needs. It would make a brilliant mid life revamp LCI for the ugly front of the G70.

Incredible the 7er has to be brought in here. The hood of the 7er sits like half a meter higher and has vastly different proportions compared to the 8er. How on earth is that going to work?

Making a Frankenstein 7er isn’t the way to go. A filigree front combined with the high, monolithic side and rear? That wouldn’t work, Rolf.

Besides the possibility of the car being produced on a very limited scale, can’t see its design going anywhere. It does not fit with the current G series language nor goes in line with the NK one.

Guess we should simply appreciate it for what it is.

The slim lights are already on the front of the 7 as DRL and BMW could use the same grill but slightly upsized and larger intakes with the same design, but certainly agree that it wouldnt be easy to graft due to the massive height of the 7 bonnet.

It's like BMW forgot that they had committed to showing a concept at this event and put something together a week before. Outdated interior and a front ripped off the Maybach Concept. Pretty lame.

Because of the ultra slim headlights? Then superficially, yes, that's one commonality but for the rest of it, I don't see it.

The Maybach concept's headlight placement is discernibly different - being located squarely on the front wings and approaching the grille at a different point to that of the Skytop concept:

The Maybach's execution of this is actually more elegant and has a coach-built look about it because that's what it is - a standalone concept.

The BMW is very clearly based on the existing 8er and its canted-forward front-end is closer to BMW DNA than that Maybach concept.

In other words: The 8-Series is selling poorly and will be discontinued next year. Why don't we explore reskinning its body and charge 3-4 times more.

BMW can say Mercedes copied the hood design and headlights from the Mille Miglia concept introduced by BMW in 2006. Stop this copy this, copy that nonsense.
