Bought a new car today

I am getting bored of my (wife's) S4 and even more bored waiting for the new M3 to come out (I have a deposit down on one) so I went to some dealers yesterday to have a look around. For those that haven't noticed, today is the end of the 2nd quarter so dealer's are trying desperately to sell new cars to get their numbers up. I jokingly offered a dealer hugely discounted price, way cheaper than broker prices, on a brand new car they had in their garage and to my surprise he accepted.

I'll post some pics when I take delivery of the car later this week. As has become customary around here, I'll leave you to speculate about what car it is.

Some clues:
It's black and my kids don't hate it.
It has 19inch rims.
The engine has good tuning potential.
It's less expensive than an M3.
I'll trade it in when the F80M comes out.

Trading something other than a BMW for the new M3 means you will have to have gotten a really good price or it is a very good price and a BMW.

Good guess but no. I did test drive an M135i yesterday, for the second time, but my kids hate the look of it and it doesn't come with 19s. The tyre noise on the road was very loud which I didn't notice on the previous test drive, probably because the first time I drove one I was thrashing it and the engine noise was probably drowning out the road noise:p .

Times are clearly tough in the European car market. It's not a car I was after but at this price I'll own it for a year and lose relatively little, especially when you consider I won't need tyres, service, brakes or anything else other than fuel for the first year. I've seen one year old examples of this model asking thousands more than I paid for a brand new one. I also traded in my S4 for more than 50% of what I paid for it after more than 4 years of ownership which I think is a pretty decent result. I had some depreciation shockers in my early car ownership years. Now, when I see a sweet deal like this, I take it because I hate fast depreciation more than I love fast cars :D.

My lawfirm just bought a car for wafting around between court houses... at a 30 % discount, so, yes, I know really good deals can be made.

Question still stands. Clues?

It's German and it's reasonably fast (for a family car).

I can only guess that it's an F30 BMW 335i M-Sport. That's how you're going to trade it back for fair value when you do the F80M deal, I reckon.
The only thing that throws me off is that you say it's "reasonably fast". Where I come from a 335i is hella fast. So perhaps an F30 330d even...

Missed the bit where you said "reasonably" fast. The C63 AMG would not be described as that.

I agree with Martin. F30 335i M Sport or even the new 335d xDrive.
Yep, I would describe the C63 as fast. That new 335d xdrive looks really good but the first ones only arrive in the UK this month and there won't be any big discounts on that one for a while. A well spec'd 335d xdrive would be over £50k which is close to M3 money. It seems that most of the cars at BMW forecourts in the UK are diesels these days and 4 cylinder ones at that. I am guessing that a few factors resulted in the discount on this 335i:
1. The 335d xdrive is now the fastest non M 3er, the 335i is relegated to 2nd
2. Petrol motors aren't as popular in BMWs as they used to be
3. There is now an M Sport PLUS package available, my 335i has 5 of the 6 options in the pack so my spec is a bit obsolete without the M Sport Plus name.
4. Sales are slow and BMW wanted to pump the numbers for June

Love it ACE, great - ahem - interi///M choice. Congrats and happy impatient wait for that M3. You'll make it through I'm sure.

Oh and just for perspective sake, down here a GTI is reasonably fast, a 335i is very fast and a C63 is voetsek fast! :D

Congratulations ACE! I was driving a 320d F30 this weekend from Holland to the UK and back, and I was absolutely stunned by how competent the chassis is on fast, sweeping bends and A roads. And that's with no adaptive dampers. It left me aghast at how BMW can make it so much better than any other saloon I've driven, including the E90 3 Series. God knows how good the 335i is going to be with the M Sport package. I'll try and do a bit of a review beyond the data I will put in the fuel consumption thread, but I'm really busy at the moment. I can't put into words how good it was as I'm not a motoring journalist, but I know what I like, and I REALLY liked the 320d.
