I have also Bought a New Car...

My heel-n-toe days are now limited to weekend driving with the Forester but I have resigned myself that the art of pedal-pushing-lever-tugging is dying a slow, inexorable death. Pity...

Interesting. Are you willing to give up?

Just came home, after a beer out with some friends and our today's topic of discussion was the best choice of shoes, given the position and knowledge of proper usage of all three pedals. I was complaining about the lack of choice of driving shoes in the local shops and I was amazed that most of my (BMW) driving aficionados friends didn't find this important enough. Out of all, only one (other than myself) found enjoyment in this!

Getting back to the question, are you willing to give up the art of properly exploiting the car over a far more refined (correct me if I am wrong) cruising experience? How good has to be and what levels of "lap time reduction" has a third-pedal-less gearbox have to offer in order for you to skip a definitely more engaging manual?

Good choice, my good man! Drives well and is economical. Win-win, IMO.

Thanks Sunny! I'd so have gotten an F31 wagon - had they been on sale in SA. Grrrr...

I was thinking the same thing...why not get the Touring? Can't believe SA doesn't get it.

Is yours built in Germany or from the SA factory?

Looks like you did a good choice, although not a Touring ;)

Ultimately there isn’t a bad car here, but the BMW stands as the clear winner: on a functional level, rear seat passengers get more space and the boot can either match or surpass everything its rivals can throw at it, save for the Merc’s clever parcel shelf. Then there’s the fact that it looks so much more appealing, both inside and out, and that its rivals can’t beat its performance or mpg and CO2 credentials – though props to them for matching them.

What really seals it, though, is the drive: the Mercedes might feel comfort-focussed, the Audi quite dynamic, but the BMW proves you can have your cake and eat it, because it’s as comfortable as the C220 CDI and more refined than the Audi, but at the same time it’s more rewarding to blast over a favourite road than either of them.
Every car you’ll ever need? That’ll be the 320d Touring.

Thanks Hoff, my car is SA-made...

Time then you go take the tour @ Plant Rosslyn. I enjoyed my tour of the plant and how efficient it operates, also being BMW AG's pride outside Germany at that. Really worth your while and on your doorstep.

Also strange IMO we miss out on the wagon's, we only get the 3 GT which is great yes but the wagon has a rightful place in our fussy market.

Martin! You have to return the car. There has been a mistake! Your steering wheel is in the wrong side!

:D

One fact from Clarkson you can take to the bank: The steering wheel on our (SA) side, Aussie, NZ, Japan and UK is on the right side! ;):D:p

Man this forum is difficult to keep up with recently, many brilliant purchases lately from my eBuddys :D

Martin, my bigger brother, congratulations and I truely wish you enjoy it in very good health.

Great choice, Martin. Congrats.

Any rust beneath the seats, lol? :D:p

Btw ... Why not getting a Touring though?

Just come back from a dad 'n daughter dinner date, had a chance to put a little foot. Man, that car is effortlessly quick and I'm getting 5.9 L/100km! I think I'm falling in love. My first Beemer. What a cool feeling.

Did you find many people getting in your way and using the BMW lane on the highway?

Martin?
