Choices, Choices and more Choices.....

True, the engine yes...huge step up. My little measly 4.3L V8 makes 275hp and this new unit will make 402hp, but the design and feel of the car is CLKish to me. I have to drive it before ruling it out though. The Mercedes' that do it for me are the CL550 and the CLS63 AMG, now those are much hotter..lol. The Mercedes and BMW dealers here are so busy you have literally hit a salesman over the head for a test drive.

Hey man i think you need to put the AMG/RS and M cars in one group and the rest in another group..
Its to broad.. those special cars are a totally different experience to a regular car ( thats why people pay more for them)
You should go and drive them and see if your up for that much sportyness..

Out of this group like i said before you can drop the RS cars..

That leaves you with the M5 and the AMG.. you cant go wrong with either.. but the CLS is more special.. its 4 door coupe.. ( the M5 is a E63 competitor)
Soon bmw will also have their M 4 door coupe..but thats to far ahead for you to wait for..

So as i see it..CLS63 is the way to go.. its a unique looking vehicle..

With the M5 (like the E63) it's a double-edged sword.

On one hand, you're spending all that money for a car most laymans would think is a more glamoured up regular, and relatively generic 5-Series. On the other hand, you're spending all that money on a car that is an engineering marvel, one of the most respected and acclaimed, with a long and rich history, and is understated yet has the design quality to play with any of the big boys (like any good German Sedan should).

It comes down to, do you like understated, or overstated? Me, I like understated with rich design quality, i.e a timeless design that doesn't make a statement by boasting, but makes it effortlessly, unless you want it to. The 5-Series and CLS are very different experiences in that regard.

^ I agree.

The M5 and the CLS63 are two completely different cars. Like K-A said, the M5 is the ultimate in BMW engineering and a testament to the brilliance of M. The CLS is a design marvel (to me at least), and more of a fashion couture icon with AMG power. If its actual performance you're looking for, I would go for the M5. However, if you want something that makes a bolder statement about image and fashion, the CLS is the obvious choice, considering its also an AMG product. The 6er is still a nicer design, though you'd be conveying something different with both cars. The CLS is like Alexander McQueen- avant-garde, edgy, controversial, stunning. The 6er more like Chanel, clean, timeless, classic, and luxurious.

Marcus I am in the same situation having the same dilemma over here. Difference is that I already raised the bar high with Panamera and anything less special would just make me sad to let the panny go. I fall in love everytime I drive it. I am having this itch over the CLS63 right now, to the point that I go back to the CLS picture thread every second and admire the look of it. Can't let it out of my head right now.

I'd love to go back to RWD torqy setup, however the interior gizmo's seem a bit of downgrade on the CLS, screen is small, no burmester and materials used in Porsche is a little bit more luxorious the way I spec'd my car. Dunno how good is the harman/kardon soundsystem, but differently not any rival of the burmester .. I enjoy good music during cruises and long journeys which I am about to take. I love the split personality of the Panamera and hope the CLS is gonna have the same type of schizophrenia the Panny has :D

Good luck and let us know how it goes. 650 is off my list becoz doesn't feel quite special at that price. It isn't a head turner as the CLS IMO

Dilemma? Just upgrade to the Panamera Turbo S :icondrool

:t-cheers:

I put a vote in the Panamera T as well. Saw a White 4S today, and with the right equipment, and at the right angle/element, and in White (the only color on that car that really gets me going I think), I think it's a winner. Only problem with the Panny's design, is that it has its good days, and it has its terrible days. Still a marvel of engineering though.

I'm going to drive a Panamera S in the next few weeks just to see what it feels like. If the car was prettier it would be such an easy choice.
