Pictures David Brent's New BMW 330e Touring (G21)

I'll try and remember to take some photos of the boot tomorrow. Compared to the saloon, the boot floor doesn't appear to be as high (but I'm sure it's exactly the same). It will be an optical illusion, I'm sure. But the wider opening means the Touring has a much larger volume. It comes with a net separator as standard, so you can pile the boot high without fear the load will impinge in the rear cabin.

The fuel tank is 40 litres. Right now, with a full tank and 100% charge, the range says 28 miles (45 km) on electric only, and 356 miles (573 km) on petrol and electric combined. From what I hear on another forum from a Norwegian owner, the car also harvests energy very well when going downhill and using the brakes, so in fact on a 600 km trip, for example, he started out with an electric range of 50km, but in fact when he got to his destination he'd travelled on electric power a distance of around 109km. This extra 59km of range was thanks to downhill sections charging the battery. I myself have observed the battery range going up from 9km to 10km after a long braking section.

But I'll definitely share my own experiences. I won't be doing a long run for another month yet. Apparently the best thing to do is stick it in "Adaptive" mode, activate the sat nav and input your destination, and let the car manage the energy. It makes for very efficient driving.

Your typical journeys sound just like mine. Perfect for a hybrid.
Thanks. What's the maximum electric only range that can be regenerated without charging?

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I think it depends on the road. If you're going downhill for some time, it will be generating energy which is then stored in the batteries, so in theory if you had a long enough road, it could generate charge continuously. The battery is 12.0 kWh, of which 10.4 kWh is useable, so with an economy of 17.0 kWh/100km, you should be able to drive 61.2 km on a full charge.

Let me rephrase. When I had an i8 for a few days, I never plugged it in anywhere to charge. Despite this it was capable of charging 50-60% of the battery through regeneration.

How much of the battery in the 330e be charged using regen alone?

Yeah, I don't know to be honest. You can also charge the battery from the engine using "Battery Control" mode. The idea being that you want to have enough battery charge when you get near your city centre destination and therefore have zero emissions, but then your fuel consumption goes up dramatically, which is a bit pointless in terms of cost savings.

Here you go, Luw...

It's hard to see but the boot floor is a little higher than on regular 3 Series Touring models. There's also a hidden section below the main boot floor, as shown in the second photo.

Congratulations @David Brent, great spec and happy miles ahead in ECE mode. How is the acceleration in electric mode and then with ICE motor combined?

Haven't really tried it with the ICE combined yet, as I'm just running it in at the moment. Xtraboost mode should be quick but not VERY quick as it weighs 1,905kg.

One thing I have noticed, however, is that in electric mode, it's very hard to modulate the throttle at slow speeds. It goes from nothing to quite a lot of throttle VERY quickly.

Can you feel the weight difference with the 318i or it is well compensated by the suspension?

Sorry, only just seen this. I specced Adaptive Suspension, so I think it's pretty well disgusied. It does seem to "float" a bit more than the 318i. It's closer in feel to the X5 than the 318i, which is also an M Sport with adaptive suspension. It's also worth bearing in mind the 330e is closer in weight to my X5 than my 318i.

Hello,

@David Brent , is it possible to have some boot photos with some bags or luggage in order to see it ?
Do you also have lenght and width (near seats) of the boot ?

I'm considering purchasing a 330e touring but my BMW dealer doesn't have the touring version.

Thanks for your help :)

This is the sedan, and obviously you can add more to the Touring boot:

It's still no Camry or Passat. But it'll do.
