GMA GMA T.50

Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) is a British automobile manufacturer of sports cars based in Shalford, Surrey, England. Founded in 2017 by former Formula 1 and McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray, the company's initial focus is on limited-run hand-built supercars. Its T.50 car entered production in 2023. It's just wholesome to see the guy still enjoying cars. I fully expect unconditional T.50 glazing. 😁
Maybe they can even diss the F1 a little bit to highlight the improvements on the remaster.

You mean just the engine sound or wind / tire noise as well? Journos probably stick mics as close to the intake to get the resonance on video, so it's likely that part is not as bad IRL.

The engine gear whine mostly (or maybe the gearbox). Although the rest of it doesn't seem that quiet either. But, like I said, it's hard to judge on video. In the Shmee one (and the one Catchpole did, for example) it's much quieter.

I only just watched both of those videos and I get what you mean. It is noisy cabin. I wonder how big of a role the ISG plays in that.
Speaking of which, they also said the ISG decouples in Vmax mode. Until now I thought it was adding power in that specific mode. Not sure if I remember it wrong or they changed it.

The engine does sound awesome up top, though. Also, they were able to hold conversation at those low speeds without raising their voices, which is impossible in some of the other supercars.

This is my best guess how it works (taken from a 2023 post of mine from another forum):
The power figure is a bit of a mess.

Initially the target was 650 "hp". Then, once they revealed the car, the engine was to have 654hp or 663PS. That is the most widely accepted and reported figure. However, some time after that they said the engine now makes 669PS (probably the 670 "hp" they are talking about). BUT, if you look at their website, it currently says 650PS (and the 615PS the T.33 was supposed to have, has now gone down to 600PS).

The reason for that is probably the ISG and the fan. The fan normally draws 8.5kW (12PS) and the ISG is capable of drawing (or supplying) 20kW (27PS). Normally you report the engine power with all the parasitic losses that come from powering pumps or alternators or whatever included, but it seems that the ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) - which they use instead of a normal starter/alternator - is not included in that. But, you still need some electrical power to power the ignition and all the electronics, and the fan, so there will be some parasitic loss. So if the engine made 669PS and then you deducted the 12PS that the fan takes and maybe another 7PS for other stuff, you would be at 650PS. However, the fan doesn't necessarily run all the time, so maybe you generally have more like 662PS.

Then, to make it a bit more complicated, the car also has a relatively large 48V battery that can power the fan and the ISG for a limited amount of time. From what they said about the weight of the battery, it's probably around 0.25kWh or something like that. That would allow you to run the fan for just under 2 minutes. In addition, you can also have the ISG draw power from the battery, which would give you additional 27PS - so around 697PS in total - for about 30 seconds.

Lastly, to make it even more complicated, the car can get a bit more power from ram air effect. Basically, the faster you go, the higher the pressure in the intake is and you can force in more air into the engine each stroke and make more power. So add that to the 697PS you can make in "Vmax mode" with the ISG running on battery and helping you, and you might be at 700PS+ at high speeds.

Well, at least that's my best guess at how that works, we still haven't been told the details.
The reason I think the ISG not only de-couples, but couples again and functions basically as an e-motor, is that GMA claimed at one point that in V-max mode the car makes over 700PS. Which is only possible with the help of the ISG. However, it's also possible that the idea of the ISG helping was proving too hard to implement, so the scrapped it and it de-couples only. That said, the 700PS+ claim is relatively recent (beginning of 2023) as that's what some customers were told.

In all the reviews and tests there has really been almost no focus on this aspect of the car, so we still really don't know much.

Day 8766 of lamenting how little journalists care about technical aspect of the cars they review.

So close. We almost got to see the GVW number. I can't quite make it out.

Looks like the first number starts with "4" and the second one with "7". So even in the worst case that's 1298kg. That seems very low, though, so who knows.

In either case I don't think that GVW will tell us much. In these low volume exotic cars it's all over the place and often makes no sense.

Phew, that almost got out of hand at the start of the video.

Dario Franchitti sure has a strange way of presenting a car that revs to 12k. He floored it maybe twice the entire video, with the rest of the time being spent in 5th gear. I was worried Mr. Leno might get an afternoon nap out of that test drive.

BTW, this console doesn't appear very sturdy, does it? 👀
