It's very interesting that MBUSA still hasn't released their 1st quarter sales yet. @...

I have been extraordinarily busy the last few weeks and haven't had many side convos with my MBUSA contacts. I did hear last week that there was some type of gaffe made with the sales tallies (similar to what happened to the November '19 sales count). They must still be working through that.

Although...there is a conference call tomorrow discussing adjusted guidance methodology, so perhaps they are just waiting to release after that call.

MBUSA finally released 1st quarter sales:

2020.....2019
67,746 71,171 -4.8%

Some interesting notes:

GLB - 4820
GLC - 13,098 - down 14%
GLE - 11,802 - up 80.6%

C,E and S are tanking - down 54.3%, 32.1% and 24.9% respectively.

GLS - 6,381 up 6%

Smells fishy!

Do you think MBUSA has somehow accounted for some local production (GLE and GLS) as sold even though the inventory may still be at dealerships?

Well "sales" in the US for all brands (except Tesla) are the number of units shipped to dealers, not actual sales to customers. The GLE and GLB added greatly to their numbers. Now we'll see what April, May and June look like.

BMW 2nd QTR US Sales:

50,957 83,976 -39.3%

Edit:

MBUSA 2nd QTR U.S. Sales:

59,461 76,225 -22.0%

CLA and GLB had big quarters, and surprisingly the A and CLA are both selling. The GLB meanwhile has cut deeply into the GLC, but it's hard to know how much of it's -49% sales drop is because of the GLB or because of the pandemic. GLS was up 35.8% during the pandemic. Just think if there hadn't been a shutdown. G-Class up 14% too. Nothing can stop SUV buyers I guess.

YTD 2020

MB - 127,207
BMW - 110, 412

Motor1 just did an article on the 10 fastest (not best) selling vehicles in the U.S. Only 2 luxury nameplates made the list:

10. Lexus GX 460 - Lexus commences iSeeCars countdown with the GX 460. The full-size luxury SUV takes an average of 46.1 days to sell, which is less than half of the average for all new vehicles. It's also one of the two luxury names on this list.

4. Mercedes-Benz GLB - The Mercedes GLB is the fastest-selling vehicle in the U.S. as far as luxury cars are concerned. It takes an average of 40.5 days to sell this small SUV, which can be due to its better practicality than the GLA, combined with a relatively affordable price tag.

The U.S. Sales Race:

2020 - Q3

Lexus - 75,285
MB - 69,631
BMW - 69,570
Audi - 47,893

Lexus was #1 in the 3rd quarter. They have pulled to 2nd place YTD according to Bloomberg News, but I haven't seen the YTD numbers published yet.
