Wow the US spec 500SEC was very underpowered due to emission regulations. Only 184HP compared to the 228HP of the Euro spec. The later 300SE inline6 produced only 7HP less power from a 2ltr less displacement and as a result, its performance stats were very close to the 500SEC.

Wow that 500SE is so stable and extremely impressive for a 40 year old car travelling at 240km/h. Quite amazing that it manages to clock the full speedo. So Mercedes claim of 225km/h could be somehow slightly conservative.
It’s unbelievable how well this car at higher speeds still drives.
