Oh monster... sincerest congrats and 100 000 happy miles! (After that I'm sure you'll be on to a newer car ;))

I'm in the fortunate position of being a driving instructor for Subaru SA, so I've spent most of my track time behind the wheel of the 3.0 R Spec sedan as my car of choice. Sure, other Scoobs are faster, but none can match the RB's composure, character and satisfaction as luxury conveyance that's always game for a bit of hooning about! This car absolutely devours corners and has less of that Legacy/Liberty tendency to understeer under heavy throttle loads. In fact, the car has quite a lively nature so it's even possible to unload the rear with a lift-off mid corner for some nice oversteer action (much easier done in the wet - in the dry you'd have to be a hooligan).
Other than that, grip grip and more grip is the order of the day. Brakes are very good, though not at the level of a 330i.

With 180 kW and 297 Nm at sea level, you're going to be impressed with silky smooth power delivery and Porsche-like engine note (it is a Boxer engine after all...) Be on the look out for that little "step" in the power band just on 4000 rpm as the higher lift cam profile kicks in. It's almost imperceptible but it's there. As a short stroke boxer engine it's fairly docile below 4200 rpm but has wonderful top-end delivery.

The 3.0R Spec B is every bit the enthusiastic driver's car.

What a stunning car - I wish you all the best!

That's one of my favorite Japanese wagons, the Legacy!

And it looks cool next to the E-Class: two silver cars in the garage...

Our next 2nd car will be a Subaru Forrester- test drove one and couldn't believe the handling and power...it'll be what gets me thru the winter when all my bimmer can do is get stuck in the snow (but I still love it)

thank you all of you guys :)

The more i drive the car the more i love it. I haven't had time to really explore its handling ability, and i want to wait till the engine is fully run in 1st before the fun starts. Is there anything in particular i have to take note of during the run in period? The engine is silky smooth and revs build up very quickly, i am keeping the engine under 4000 rpm for now. i think the engine lacks just a little bit of bottom end torque.

The Liberty/Legacy 3.0 is not that popular in Aust, there are hardly any of them on the road, espically the wagon version, which is good because i don't like people driving the same car as i do.

Nice ride! Maybe I'll see you out on the roads somewhere. :t-cheers: (not that I'd recognise you or anything! :D)

I suppose that this level of Soob is beginning to reach into entry level German compact executive sedan level, and Subaru wasn't ever a mainstream brand anyhow, so there aren't going to be many of these around. However, it's not something so outlandish as (no offense :D) a Saab 9-5.

Hope you enjoy the car!

congrats man...I love the legacy wagon. That car is so beautiful. My friend showed me a japanese magazine where they have that same one modded...and its crazy man...its putting out like 540hp and such...but i'm pretty sure you're not going to do that though...but still enjoy the car, it's so awesome.

Man I love this car. One of my favourite Japanese cars that make the cut... How is the interior quality compared to the Germans?

wow i am surprised by the amount of positive responses towards this car, espically in a german car forum. I think other people on the road like the car as well because they actually let us out of the side streets or cut into their lane. When i am in the E, people don't seem to like us that much. The Subaru is very nice indeed, fun to drive, very practical but it is drinking up so much petrol, 18L/100km !, the E only drinks about 13L/100. I swear i have not done any hard driving at all.

I am tempted to mod the car, but nothing major, maybe a set of sports intake and exhaust system, and a set of brembo brake kit.

It is a bit unfair to compare the interior quality between the E with the Subaru, cause the E is more than twice the price, but i have done it anyway cause it is impossible not to notice the differences.

the very 1st thing i notice when i sit inside the interior of the Subaru is the leather on the seats. The leather is very smooth, with less texture, and it feels very thin, and a bit cheap and not leather like. It felt very different to the E. I would say the leather seats in the E felt a lot better, the leather feels thicker and more expensive.

the 2nd thing i notice is the quality of the plastic . The entire dashboard of the E is covered with soft, nice to touch plastics, Most of the buttons in the car has a rubbery, and very solid feel to it, espically those bottons for the windows. The plastics, including the dashboard plastics are harder and more slippery in the Subaru, actually there are a lot more hard plastics, espically in the areas around the handbrake leaver and around the door handles. The buttons on the dash do feel almost as solid as those in the E. 1 thing that annoys me the most are the door handles on the Sub, they feel very fimsy and light.

1 thing that really surprise me was the quality of the nobs for the Mclntoch sound system. i think those nobs are made of real metal and they are very very solid, and they are very well made. They are way better than those rotary nobs on the COMMAND system and the air con in the E. I cannot believe how cheap are those rotary nobs, they feel like a toy and they are very loose.

The general level of fit and finish on the Subaru are ok, there are 2 things that stood out. THe glove box doesn't really align with the rest of the dash, u can see an uneven gap on the side when it is closed. and the panel on the lower dash, below the steering colume doesn't really align well with the central console. There is no such problem in the E, everything panel fits tightly and they are perfectly aligned.

one last thing. u only get the basic interior lighting in the subaru, u get one overhead light in the middle, one light near the wagon door, and 2 map lights in the front. In the E, i think there are too many lights, u get 2 map lights up front plus 2 normal lights, and u get the same light set up in the middle of the roof, plus u get lights around the door handle, under the dash and under the front seats, plusthe ambient lighting. The E is a very nice place to be in at night.

That is it for now......... maybe i have typed too much, i don't think any normal people will notice all these things

Thanks a lot for your input! I think you've nailed just about all of the details that makes a German car German. :)

yeah...i mean c'mon. comparing the legacy wagon to the e is like comparning apples to oranges. But i'm still glad you did, because I bet it makes you say "hmm..so it was worth the extra amount for the E" :D

you are absolutely right NarutoRamen. There are so many little things the E has over the Sub and other cars (we test drove about 20 cars before picking the E) that in the end the price we pay for the E is justified, and there are things that u cannot put a price on, such as the solid feeling you get when your are driving and sitting inside the E.

As always you get what you pay for, and i am more than happy to own and drive the Sub, it is a very good car for a very resonable price.

For some reason i still miss the Saab though.

Wow just how quickly time went by...., 9 years and 7 accidents later the Subaru is going for a full body respray next month because every single panel of the car is in a different shade of silver..:(
