Monster's Subaru Liberty 3.0 Spec B wagon

I absolutely love that gen of Legacies (or Liberties, depending what neck of the woods you hail from). The design, inside and out, and the interior were great.

Wow just how quickly time went by...., 9 years and 7 accidents later the Subaru is going for a full body respray next month because every single panel of the car is in a different shade of silver..:(

Is still averaging 18L/100km? Usually once the shine rubs of on a car, the consumption decreases!

It is still a great car to drive, and it is still an attractive looking car, that is why it is difficult for me to let it go.

It is better now, averaging between 15 to 16 L/100, in mix conditions. However this is the highest I saw last year, stuck in traffic with air con, 19.2 L/100.

And this is the normal average.

How come that happened?

Long story......besides these 7 accidents, the car has been keyed all around, egged..random dents on every single panel...

Here are the list of accidents.

No 1: Mum reversed the car into a pole, broke the rear lights and the rear bumper. Rear crash structure replaced, bumper and light replaced

No 2: A police car hit the back side of our car...yes a police car.... while my car was stationary at the traffic lights. Rear bumper, crash structure repaired/ replaced.

No 3: Entire drive side of the car was swiped at the gym car park, old driver confused the brakes with the accelerator, new driver and rear passenger door, rear bumper also resprayed.

No 4: Similar to the previous accident, left the car at a different car park to find the driver side was hit from the back to front, rear passenger door skin replaced, driver door resprayed. Rear bumper also resprayed

No 5: Dumb bitch let go of her fully loaded shopping trolley inside the car park and it went into the left side of my car, rear quarter panel, rear door and rear bumper repaired and resprayed.

No 6: Car rear ended in traffic while I was waiting at the lights. Rear bumper replaced

No 7: Happened at the start of this year, the front right side of my car was hit by a dumb bitch
trying to cut in front of me from the wrong side of the road. Front bumper, front quarter
panel, wheel, and bonnet needs to be repaired, the insurance company finally approve my
claim after 6 months, now I am waiting for them to approve the complete respray of my car.

^^
Wow. At least the car has been properly used! Are you respraying it because you are planning on keeping it for much longer?

I took the car to a new repairer for an assessment and he didn't know which panel he can use to match the front bumper with because every panel is in a different shade of silver, so the only option is to respray the entire car.

Also my mechanic said the other repairer left some masking tape behind some panels too.

At the moment I am planning to replace it by the end of the year because there are a few mechanical issues that need attention too. Having said that I am shuddering already just thinking about the abuse the new car will suffer.......

How much will the respraying cost if you don't mind me asking.

Estimate cost between $5k to $6k AUD. I don't have to pay for it because my insurance company offers life time warranty for any repair approved by them, however I don't expect them to willingly approve this big job.

So....almost a year and many angry phone calls later, my repair has finally been approved, every panel of the car is getting repainted, except for the roof. The car is at the paint shop now, completely stripped and waiting to be painted.

Looking back at this thread and seeing the photos of the day when I picked up the Subaru, it did bring tears to my eyes. The Subaru has been through a lot in the past 10 years.

Here it is at happier road trip times.

A little update again, after 2 weeks and even more angry phone calls, the repairer told me the car was ready today. I turn up to the shop, started my car and found out that both the sat nav unit and the audio unit won't switch on, also the car alarm has gone mental, the hazard lights won't stop flashing. I am extremely not pleased, to say the least. The repairer said all they have done was to remove the headlights and tail lights, which I call bs. I called my insurance company, basically they said the electrical system wasn't part of the original repair and they won't give a crap about what is happening now.

So the car is still at the bloody shop and I told the repairer quite clearly that I will not be paying for the cost to have them fix up the electrical system, if they can fix it.

Edit: Car was almost ready, hope the glue will stay on

Finally got the car back today, all resprayed, except for the roof. All the window seals were replaced too. Car looks 95% new, it is probably as good as it will get unless I spent more money to fix up the little things.

Final repair cost is over $6k. My insurance company hates me, but they can get stuffed.

^^
I'm glad it got resolved and didn't leave you between the garage and insurance company pointing a finger at the other.
Thanks Luw, I am relieved that this whole episode is over for now, it was a nightmare, especially dealing with the insurance company, it was going around in circles being pushed off to every single department, and as you said, things were going back and forth between myself, the garage and the insurance company.

The garage must be happy as they can bill a premium when they know an insurance company will cover the costs. Maybe I'm mistaken but do Subaru wagon's have a bit more ground clearance than wagons from other manufactures?
