My R53 MINI One

thx
jap well the next big service, the car is doing fine. the airbag is currently reporting an error, but i'm ignoring it - i tried to get rid of it for three times now, but 5months later its shining again. bmw says that it should work anyway. the last service(not at bmw) reported some rust developing under the exhaust, we will see how this has developed in some months(currently i'm not driving much with my own car). but if the rust has gotten worse i'll probably upgrade on a jcw exhaust

How much does a service cost you mate?

BTW, I'll be reaching the 300.000km milestone with the Clio very soon! And the last 20.000km have only costed me ~120€ in services, plus an engine base which i broke because i was going 80km/h in a gravel road :D

honestly, i have no clue - i'm not expecting anything below 300euro
but its going to be the first service in a while which i'm doing at a bmw dealer. they tend to have spicy prices and arrogant appearance, but this time i'm trying a new dealer

I think that all BMW dealers have really high service prices. I've got a friend with a 320i E46 and he hasn't spent less than 400€ and my third service (55000km) at a Volvo dealer costed me 700€ plus 550€ for new tyres... Cars cost a lot :D

hm my car is giving me a hard time currently
this morning on my way to work my car simply stopped moving anywhere. I’m suspecting the clutch being the issue. I wasn’t able to accelerate, the car was revving very high but didn’t move like anyone would expect it - it got worse every meter I drove. It felt as if the tires had no grip, but pretty soon it was clear to me that the clutch made the problems. so i stopped the car and start it again, shifting to the first gear - but it wasn't moving. it felt as if it didn't connect to the gearbox.
after all my car is currently at my bmw dealer for investigations. :t-banghea

i have come across several people in mini forums who had problems with their clutch at 50.000(especially with 2002 models), but my dealer of course denies that this is a Mini problem.

i'm really praying that its not the worst case scenario(gearbox incl clutch), it would definitely make me think about keeping him.(uh hard even to think about it)

hard times being a mini freak...

my dealer called me today
worst case
gearbox is totally destroyed - my dealer says that he has never seen anything like this on a 50.000km car.
i'm really feed up and partly confused. i may drive sporty, but i know how to handle a gearbox and i'm definitly not making formula 1 starts at stop signs. the damage is worth 3000euro, and as far as i know its known that the gearbox in prefacelift minis can give up pretty early in their cycle (the company(midland) which built the gearboxes even went bankrupt).
i don't understand why i should pay for that sh*t just because some engineers can't do their math.

desperate times

Time for a Cooper S:cool:

Your lucky the power steering didn't go as well, thats a common problem in the 02 ones.

Wow, terrible news! So you will have to pay for this?

i'm currently looking at the product liability law, i'm thinking about a certain chapter but i don't know if it can be applied ... we will see

Time for a Cooper S
the time will come, but its not here yet:cool:

yeah heard about it as well...

hm, i have found some cases on the internet (germany) with similar problems - where bmw at least paid 50% of the damage (even without warranty).
called some experts (on product liability issues) today, they said that i "only" need prove that bmw was aware of the gearbox issues in early production cycles.
well as far as i know, bmw never officially talked about it
but
-they paid(as said above) in several cases
-midland got closed
-facelift minis carry a getrag gearbox
so this more or less indicates that bmw was aware of these issues

but its no prove :t-banghea

it would be easier to just pay for it :eusa_thin

Did you buy your car from a BMW/MINI dealer ?
In that case just say that you want them to pay half..
:)

If you did buy private, I am sorry man..
But good luck I wish you the best with your car..

i bought it from a nissan dealer (don't ask :D)
but this shouldn't be the problem, they also paid 100% of my rear brake issue (that story is somewhere in this thread).

on monday i'll get in contact with mini austria
we will see
