Audi R8 Spyder Officially Revealed -

The new Audi R8 Spyder is finally uncovered via official channels because unofficially we got the chance to see it in full a lot earlier.
naturally aspirated V10 engine, 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 198mph (318km/h).

Audi went for a lightweight cloth top, just like the previous model, which needs 20 seconds to open and close in speeds of up to 31mph (50km/h). The rear window is individually retractable, meaning that it can be lowered, even with the roof up.

“With its spontaneous throttle response, quick revving-up and inimitable sound, the 5.2 FSI naturally aspirated engine in the new Audi R8 Spyder delivers undiluted emotion,” remarked Dr.-Ing. Stefan Knirsch, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development. “Compared to the R8 Coupé, the engine sound in the open high-performance sports car now delivers an even more intense experience.”

Compared to the previous model, Audi says that they have increased the torsional rigidity of the body by over 50 per cent. The new R8 Spyder weighs 1612kg dry, with Audi reinforcing specific areas in the chassis, including the sills, A-pillars and the windscreen frame. These new reinforcements are now lighter by 10 per cent, which translates into a very significant 113kg weight saving over that of its predecessor.

Other than that, it’s pretty much known territory as the new Audi R8 Spyder uses the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with the 158kg lighter coupe model, sending power to all four wheels.

Losing the roof should mean now that the V10’s howling soundtrack can travel more easily into the cabin, making the whole driving experience of the Audi R8 a tad more emotional.

I can tell you that from here on the show floor in NYC today that spyder is STUNNING. OMGEEE. I can tell you a RS7 Performance, R8 Spyder and Q7 would make a perfect Audi garage.

Which one looks more stunning, this or the Huracan Spyder?

the highlights of the show for me were the r8's ..totally agree about the spyder. Also agree huracan more stunning and menacing . Can't wait to see more colors on the r8. Something for me to work towards

Also a side note I rode along on a test drive of a loaded q7 and was unimpressed ..engine sounded unrefined ..interior quality sub par for the class..but interior design was pretty cool and creative .

I have a 2015 R8 Competition in Ibis white and all I can say is that the new R8 is a styling disaster. Going to vertical slits or air intakes both front and rear makes the car look narrower although it is wider! The front end with hexagons in the grill looks cheap and Japanese. It is also chromed as is the surround and the trim around the lights.

The side foil is gone, perhaps the most signature aspect of the original car. Breaking into two completely destroys the look. On lighter colors the cars do not look related and on dark cars the look disappears entirely.

It looks like a Acura NS-X instead of the previous R8 which had a bad boy look and little chrome. I was going to trade my wife's 2015 R8 V10 Suzuka in on a new R8 but it is not even close. The interior is screwed up with no screen that the passenger can use. The LED drivers screen has lost its race car look and the carbon surround on the dash that made it look like a F1 cockpit is gone.

The shifter looks like it belongs in a Cadillac or Greyhound bus.

So here is my plan: I just ordered a RS7 Performance in Nardo grey because I know that Audi is going to give this car the Japanese pimpmobile treatment next year with Chrome chrome and more chrome, just like the new A5.

To replace my wife's R8 I just ordered a Ferrari 488 GTB in White/black interior and carbon side splitter and front spoiler. By the way Ferrari also got their LCD layout right whilst Audi screwed that up also.

Somebody is going to be lucky when they buy her R8.

I am keeping my bad boy R8 Competition.

Audi R8 V10 Spyder gets closer to european consumers, starts from €179,000

Audi will commence pre-sales of the all-new R8 V10 Spyder in Europe tomorrow (July 14), almost four months after it stepped in the NY Auto Show for its premiere.

Priced from €179,000 ($198,320) in Germany, the open-top supercar features LED headlights with laser technology, Audi Virtual Cockpit, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity and Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.

Its cloth top needs 20 seconds to open and close and can be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). Compared to its predecessor, its torsional rigidity has been improved by 50 percent, while more than 110 kg (243 lbs) were shred from its total weight, as it now tips the scales at 1,612 kg (3,554 lbs) dry.

Unlike most rivals, Audi has not opted for forced induction, so the R8 is powered by 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 "borrowed" from the Lamborghini Huracan, which develops 540 PS (532 HP) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. That's good enough for a 3.6-second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint run and a 318 km/h (198 mph) top speed.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
