I like everything except the rear lights, just look boring to me.

I was hoping they would be redesigned like the clubmans (not the same, but different the standard hatch)

Looks pretty good. Better than the 5dr and Clubman, IMHO. And if the Paceman replacement looks like this with a slopyy-er roof, it'll be better looking the X2.

Not sure that I like the heavy chrome beading around the headlights - looks like liberally applied eyeliner.

And here's Countryman Mk1 and Mk2 compared, side by side:

How big is this thing? Still a MINI or rather a MIDI?

More of a MIDI. It's been lengthened by 20cm and is now 4,297cm long and has a 450L boot! By comparison, the Audi Q3 is 4,385cm long and has a 420L boot. This is no longer a small car but sizable small SUV slotting in beneath the X1.

I have never been a Mini fan, and although its not a big car for the money, BMW have done a good job finally making the interior look more grown-up. The trim on the dash and quilted leather seats are nice touches.

Having gone over a few more of the photo's, I have to say, I really like this. The creases in the shoulder lines in the pics Centurion posted above really help, and I like all the other styling elements. X1 or Countryman, I'd probably take the Countryman.

The Countryman is more original than the X1 both inside and out, and as you said, it looks terrific in that grey colour. Where it can't beat the BMW is space. As much as I can't stand the cheapness of the X1 interior, the packaging in exceptional to the point that I almost bought one instead of an X3.

Does anyone know if the Paceman has been canned?

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
