I like both. The old one looks more fun and classic mini whilst the new one is an evolution that's more grown-up and luxury orientated.

Yesterday I thought watching a previous one pass by, coming down from its interior, from that enormous apparent solidity in your face to this one with the thin, almost floating screen, it must feel like it's fragile

The new display is high tech, cleeeean and without a fussy surround comprised of bezels, chrome and other stuff.

There seems to be an emphasis on making smaller city cars like tech-gadgets. Building in desirability as well as convenience and making you want it!
Something MINI as a brand are embracing with its new line up.

I disliked the previous Mini interior. Too goofy and busy. Today, interior design is difficult. More often than not you have to design around a 1 or 2 rectangular screens. Mini have retained the circular display, made the cabin more high tech but at the same time easier on the eyes than the out going models. Bye bye gloss surfaces you will not be missed.
