After dropping the veils off the limited edition R8 V10 RWS last night, Audi has now presented the new generation RS4 Avant, at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
2.9-liter TFSI biturbo V6 engine that makes 450PS (444hp) and 600Nm (443lb-ft) of torque, pushed to the Quattro all-wheel drive through a tweaked 8-speed automatic transmission, with optimized gear changing.
The 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint takes just 4.1 seconds, and top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph), but it can be increased to 280km/h (174mph), with the optional RS Dynamic Package.
By comparison, it's 0.1sec faster than the Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate, which carries a twin-turbo V8 engine, married to a 7-speed gearbox.
Despite the impressive output and performance, the all-new Audi RS4 Avant is said to return an average fuel consumption of just 8.8 l/100 km (32.1 mpg UK / 26.73 mpg US), and to emit 199 g/km of CO2, in an efficiency gain of 17 percent, compared to its predecessor. Ingolstadt's new super wagon is also 80kg (176lbs) lighter than the car it replaces, as it tips the scale at 1,790kg (3,946lbs).
When equipped with the standard RS sport suspension, the RS4 Avant sits 7mm (0.3in) lower than the basic A4 modelwith sport suspension. It can also be equipped with the optional Dynamic Ride Control, ceramic brakes, and RS-specific dynamic steering, with drivers able to define their own experience by using the standard dynamic handling system Audi Drive Select.
Audi's designers took inspiration from the 90 Quattro IMSA GTO when sketching the fourth-generation RS4 Avant, which gets the typical honeycomb structure in the massive air inlets, specific singleframe grille, and 30mm (1.2in) wider wheel arches compared to the regular A4 Avant.
At the rear end, the car has an RS diffuser insert, oval tailpipes and roof edge spoiler, while the 19-inch standard or 20-inch optional wheels and Nogaro Blue exterior color, which recalls the first-gen Avant from 1999, round up the list of exterior updates.
Opening the door reveals the sport seats with optional honeycomb pattern, flat-bottomed sport steering wheel wrapped in leather, and RS-specific displays in the Audi Virtual Cockpit. There's also a head-up display that indicates G-forces, tire pressures, and torque. The new RS4 also gets the RS emblem on different surfaces, and can ultimately be customized to suite each driver's taste, through the brand's Exclusive program.
Audi will open the order books for the new RS4 Avant this fall, as prices will start from €79,800 ($95,674) in Germany, and £61,625 ($81,235) in the United Kingdom.
