Vantage [Official] Aston Martin Vantage AMR Gets 7sp Manual

Not factually - no.

I can only guess it's a myriad of small reasons, some of which:
- Additional electronic componentry; ECU complexity and logic
- Cost
- Not everyone wants
- It's only for plonkers who can't drive a manual properly

I certainly wouldn't want it. In fact I can't even stomach auto rev-matching systems on downshifts - some of which are pe...

But but do you not want buyers who are afraid of failure to feel accomplished when drag racing against cars with automatic transmission and launch control?

Do you know why the feature is so uncommon.

Just MO - before the days of electronic throttle, no automatic way of doing it, so people are used to upshifting the normal way - by getting off gas. Race cars drivers (with big budgets) used to stay flat on the gas to save milli secs and bounce of rev limiter cause as long as driveline lasted one race, they didn't care.

But with advent of electronic throttle, you can get ecu to keep the engine at any desired rpm irrespective of the gas pedal position, so now average joe can play race car driver without harming the engine/clutch/transmission.

When I drove the 991,2, I couldn't get myself to do it - just too used to getting off the gas.

The Fiesta ST has a brilliant manual and the gearbox suits the car as you can have alot of fun with it below the speed limit. Manual in fast cars make sense depending on where you live.

If local roads are frequently congested or dominated by slow-moving traffic then a manual gearbox is no fun and can leave you feeling tired/agitated at the end of a journey.

With that being said, I would love to drive this manual Aston on a quiet and warm sunday morning at 0800am when roads are empty.

Not sure when the FL is coming for this one, but with a redesign of the upper part of the headlights (and new LEDs like the ones on the DBS) and changing the part of the rearlights in the bootlid (making them L-Shaped like in the DB10), the car would change radically.

Add to that a less radical grille and rear diffuser, and this car can become even more a looker than it already is. The proportions are perfect. The interior, with a new trim for the air vents and a more up to date infotainment system, could improve as well.
