A5/S5/RS5 [Official] Audi RS5

The only thing disappointing is the price tag.

So are many people, especially when Audi could very easilly lower the price and achieve astounding sales -- after all, they are a part of VAG. But it seem like they are employing a different strategy than M and AMG -- higher exclusivty and higher price. It's the same for the R8 which they could easilly have milked but have kept the production figure rather low. It's a cautious approach to building a luxury brand rather than doing what most apsiring companies would do which is compete by pricing themselves lower. Audi are basically saying "We are no less prestigious than BMW or Mercedes".

^^ True. And they're winning Americans over to this idea, inch-by-inch.

I love this RS5. I want it to bare my firstborn.

So it'll need all the extra power over the M3 it can get, since it's a pig...120 kg heavier than M3, it explains an identical 0-100 time at least..

Centurion, real exclusivity is the upcoming C63 AMG BS, and the already existing M3 GTS ;)

Yeah, the RS5 will be as mainstream as the RS4... but, is there really anyone who thinks there will not be a lightweight version of the RS5?

RS5 may weigh more but will arguably put its power down better tham M3. Will be interesting to see how the new development of the Quattro drive train translates onto the road and improves the handling. I expect the RS5 to be better than the M3 but time will tell. Surprised that the torque vectoring system is not standard.

Looks wise the RS5 kills of the M3 no question IMO. If I had to choose between the two on looks alone RS5 ever time.

Depends on your taste Audi69 regarding looks, I much prefer the M3 looks, although I do agree the RS5 is a nice looking car.

This debate is interesting, but I believe we are comparing two different classes of cars. The RS5 is substantial larger than the M3, is it not? I agree with other posters that the M6 would be a much better comparison.

Still prefer the M3 though.

No, the E92 3 series coupé and A5 coupé on which the M3 and RS5 are respectively based are roughly equal in size and occupy the same 'class'. The BMW 6 series is bigger both in terms of size and price.

Now this is waaaaaaaaay wrong.
A5 - 3 series and NOTHING ELSE. Meaning, that the RS5 is the direct competitor to the M3. Anybody who thinks else, is way wrong.
Its' like starting to compare the TT to the CLK.

Because I have driven one and it's fabulous (6M a plus also). Excellent balance, speed and handling. It is also a visceral and fun experience to drive on a purely subjective level. It also drives "smaller" than its size, like most bimmers (exremely agile) do, a trait I have not found in other cars.

Also, I munch prefer the looks of the 3 compared with the RS5. Call me old fashion or just a fan of the 3 series in general, but I think it's just about perfect.

Also, the A5's I have seen seem larger, taller than the 3.

But, I still like the RS5 and would love to give one a go.

I am surprized that Audi didn't offer a carbon fiber roof just like BMW, it is an easy fix and can have good result too.

^how much do they save actually..??
I always saw that as a gimmick..

PS
And maybe they are afraid of being called BMW copy cats..;)

Of all the places you can put cf, it is the least gimmicky place to put it. And BMW is not the only one to do it, I believe ZR1 has it. Also believe up coming Ferrari GTO might have it.

5 kg according to BMW. But because the weight reduction is at the highest point on the car's body, it has a bigger effect than anywhere else as it helps to lower the car's center of gravity.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
