A5/S5/RS5 [Official] Audi RS5

Ha! It looks like I was right all along! That blue Audi S5 with camo is the same one I photographed at the 'Ring last year. I speculated that it must have been the RS5 undergoing testing. I need to check if the license plates are the same but I am pretty sure they are! :D

Absolutely stunning..............

Considering the RS4 was priced at a premium over the M3, we should expect the same this time around. Based on looks alone this premium will be worth it.....I am sure whatever the engines specs turn out to be, they will be spectacular.

Best car based on a model from this segment from the big three germans since the CLK DTM (even though that car is in all together different league).

Yet another awesome job from Audi! This coupe truly redefines the term H-O-T-N-E-S-S... Absolutely loved it! :icondrool

This came out of nowhere.

And for good reason... It's incredible. I'm sorry but after seeing this, BMW - BMW M - need to pull their bloody finger out. The M5 had better be brilliant to win me back over because I'm quickly loosing faith in their current direction.

I'm not a big fan of Audi, but this RS5 has converted me for the time being!

So you buy cars purely on how they look in photographs then?

I don't see where I mentioned buying anything? Direction of RS vs. that of the M division is different from my personal purchases. I'd never buy an Audi because ride is terrible on Australian roads and the dealer in my local area is notoriously useless.

Well, you didn't, but the principle is still the same. You were saying "M" had to pull their fingers out yet you don't know what the RS5 drives like. All you've seen is a photo.

Exactly, I've made my comment based on what I have seen. Obviously, my opinion could, and most likely will change, after some road tests, and possibly even I have driven the new RS. I have been for a few rides in a E92/93 M3s and I know Audi have a great challenge ahead of them.

So imposing but yet so discrete. This A5 on steroids perfectly compliments the lavish Las Vegas-esque R8 with a more subtle body kit. Choose gun metal grey or blue, debadge it and you have one hell of a sleeper. 450hp is ample power, especially from a 4.2L engine, the engine sound is mount to tear people's eardrums. On a different front, the price tag will tear people's financial lives a part. Given that the RS4 was frimly priced at around 72k, I would fall of my chair at the sight of a 80k sticker price for this very desirable machine.

After options have been added, the price will be sniffing right under the 100k barrier. This will off course ensure exclusivity and make the car more exotic than the accessibly priced M3. Mercedes cocked up with the pricing of the CLK63 which was ignored by the majority in favor of the sensual and curvy CLS63. The question lingers whether Audi will produce a RS5 sportback and thus have a complete circle of RS4 Sedan, RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe, RS5 Cabrio and RS5 Sportback.

The only thing I don't like are the 3 bars (2 horizontal + 1 vertical) on each air-intake scoop. I think it would look better without them. Other than that the car looks menacing!

I marked the slats with blue:

Autoblog.it says V8 4,2 480 HP with tiptronic from new A8.

Like south already wrote above, that info is very much incorrect.

According to several reliable sources:

4.2-liter (naturally aspirated) V8
331 kW (450 hp/8250 r/min )
430-460 Nm
S-tronic (= Audi-moniker for dual-clutch transmission a.k.a. DCT/DSG)

No word on manual but I wouldn't rule it out. ;)

Besides the engine layout and displacement, this is as wrong as it can get.

Agreed that this might make for a fast time, I fail to see how this makes the RS5 "more efficient", though.

Maybe we are arguing semantics here. What I mean is that it will be faster because it is built from a recepie for efficiency but not necesserily one that is perfect for delivering driver enjoyment. At least not according to my cookbook. :D

I'll definetely have a look at the car in the next week or so and maybe have a drive when it comes to the market, but it has the typical Audi RS scenario of being based on a car which will be compensating driving dynamics for excessive straight-line thrust.

As M said it helps greatly if you have a great driving car to begin with as a basis.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
