It’s going to be good that BMW moves to NK design. What they are doing with the kidney grille here is Audi level of silliness.

Then it was time to axe the good looking pre-LCI i4s and put in some real cost cut savings.

- Plastic covered steering wheel airbag
- Removal of the dashboard trim ambient light
- No more leather dashboard
- Flat bottomed steering wheel with a tacky red "racing stripe"
- Ugly non consistent light design with less technology than the previous one

I went over the list of updates for the i4 - there is a bunch of cosmetic stuff like new grill graphics, new headlight graphics, new taillights. I didn't read about a single substantial update to the car's mechanicals/capabilities. And this is with a car that is probably at the tail end of EVs in the market in terms of range/efficiency.

Porsche recently updated the Taycan, and it was substantially improved the car mechanically in terms of range/efficiency/charging. Same with Tesla and Model 3 update in terms of range and efficiency.

What a disappointment bmw has become.

Taycan improvements are substantial because previous gen J1 was developed in 2017 probably, old tech.

I think its not that easy to increase the range/efficiency without new motors or bigger battery, they keep that for NK platform.

Actually Tesla didn't improved the range of new Model 3 by much, but they made it more comfortable.
The Long Range AWD version, with the same 18-inch wheels, is rated at 341 miles, which means a slight increase of 8 miles or 2.4% from the 333 miles listed previously.

  • G26 i4 will get an update for EMs and/or batteries in 07/25 for the worldwide models and 11/25 for the US. We will probably see that hardware first in the updated i5 since it will start production 4 months earlier. With that, i4 models will match i5, and i4 M50 will become i4 M60 xDrive with the same 590hp offered in the i5 M60 xDrive."

And i4 is not? It is even more subpar than the old Taycan.

But they still did something to improve range and efficiency (despite being already class leading) and not just add a new grill stciker and call it a day.

The i4 40 which I drove few times has a good real world range similar to Model 3, 200 miles on highway, but i4 has smoother ride and much better soundproofing, its a better car no doubt.
The big difference is the M50 which is less efficient because is too heavy and then the Model 3 P has better efficiency and more range.

Except a model 3 does it with a way smaller battery.

And Is this the same way you claimed Audi etron GT is not much worse than Lucid - https://www.germancarforum.com/threads/audi-e-tron-gt.61853/post-1274287

Seriously, expect better from the brands you like.

Because it's like 400+ kg lighter and 70% more efficient.

Seriously, expect better from the brands you like.

Maybe clutching straws, but I hope they are simply focusing the NK next gen 4er. We all know it's impossible to even get close to Tesla with this modded ICE platform, so I hope they just couldn't be bothered. The i4 seems to be doing just fine in the current market, and this update won't harm that.

Per the Future BMW Information thread ^

i4 will get more technical updates next year.

I wouldn't call it at tail end for efficiency, neither do most reviewers.

Kudos to BMW for listening to clients and have a proper response .

Hiding the outer line of the grill , blending it with the bumper , along the modified bumper , makes this car look totally different.

No longer the mad beaver.

MB , take a note.

But that was always the case with the pre-LCI i4 vs the ICE 4 Series. It's the ICE 4 Series that has that stupid "smile" under the grille and that's still the case.

Precious little difference.
