i8 [Official] BMW i8 World Premiere

The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. The i8 was part of BMW's electrified fleet and was marketed under the BMW i sub-brand. The production version of the BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was released in Germany in June 2014. Deliveries to retail customers in the U.S. began in August 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Production ended in June 2020.
Great job overall BMW, really looks like a BMW in-and-out with familiar suspension components galore! It looks stunning, much better that expected from the outside also. I am not a fan of e-cars that said for what it is, represents and also brings to this 'unique' segment I can't gripe much about anything. (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Now where is the 8 Series with the V8 TT engineo_O:)

Ok so my Birthday is tomorrow, so anyone would like to order this for me please go right ahead. I would prefer it in black.

@Human @klier

Good job BMW! I am impressed.

Sorry, order books for black ones are fully booked right now. But do not fear! I have ordered you a green one:D:sick::D

Hey, jokes aside I really wish I could have made your birthday that special HoH. Wish I was in the position to buy all my friends on GCF the car their heart desires:)

To increase fuel consumption?

It's an e-car my friend ;)

But it's also a performance car. If it's not why build it in such a configuration, low down with a performance car profile? Why the emphasis on 0-100 figures? Why 362hp? Why not make it less powerful with even better fuel economy? Why not a diesel hybrid?

The key of the car, as depicted in one of the pictures, looks interesting. It is intriguing to find out what novel functions it has and what info the key screen shows.

What will be the price of this car?

What is the goal/target of this car?......to demonstrate the potential of a hybrid powertrain as a performance/sports car?.....much like the P1, LaFerrari, and 918, but on a lower scale in terms of price and performance? Maybe this will be the blueprint for the future of BMW?

It's priced @ $135k in the US market. That makes it the second priciest BMW model in US, just behind 760Li ($141k). It's more expensive than the priciest M model available (M6 Cabrio @ $115k).

That puts it in between Audi R8 V8 ($115k) & R8 V10 ($151k), and between 911 GT3 ($130k) and 911 Turbo ($151k).

Beautiful car inside and out, but at $135,925 "base price"(add 15k for options) and hp of 231 and 0-100 of 4.4 sec, who does BMW think is the target market?
Why would I buy i8 when I can get an R8 or 911 GT3 or turbo with lot more oomph?
Electric top speed is only 75 mph and range of 22 miles. Very poor when compared to Tesla Model S which compares with M5.

Too many whys.

Holy @#$%! It's beautiful and I am very surprised as I didn't expect it to look that good.

Great job BMW! (It's been quite a long time since I wrote that)

Remember my e-birthday cake I made for you like 10 years ago on GermanCarFans??? We go back a loooong time by now!

Either way, congrats my friend. No i8 for you though, I don't have the money :D
1/8 scale model from Scott is nice though, PM him your address details so he can send it over.

This is a hybrid with electric only capability. Tesla is a electric only car.

Not only that. It's a 2-tonne full-sized luxury sedan with 5+2 seats. It was designed to be large, heavy, practical & versatile - to be a full-operational family car with long-range battery capacity.

Not all 1st generation EVs & hybrids are designed to be that & to cater such needs. Therefore comparing different types of vehicles (sub-compact city cars, compact hatches, full-sized sedans, 2+2 sports cars etc) only due to all feature electric drive is too naive & too ignorant. Range comes with batteries: which need space & bring weight. Therefore - until light & compact batteries are reliably & available for an affordable price - we will see different approaches: either large, expensive & heavy vehicles with long range, or smaller & lighter & cheaper (city) cars with limited electric range.

As said: i8 is a contemporary plug-in HYBRID sports car (not supercar!!!) - with some electric range (for downtown driving), small, clean & efficient ICE engine, lightweight construction & adequate performance for a sports car.
