Hyundai Tucson and X1 look like if they would share the same platform. Sad to say that. But as BMW's minivans are aiming KIA design seems to be legit. The Tiguan has more premium presence and a great stance IRL.
The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman. Despite its name, it is now only the second smallest SUV produced by BMW since the introduction of the X2.

That looks like a very fun test for the journalists. I would love to drift a crossover through a muddy 90 degree turn!
Although these tests are useful in showing what cars can achieve on stock tyres, anyone who care about off-road performance would buy the smallest alloy size and get off-road alloy tyres.
My pick from the bunch would hands down be the Tiguan. It has the best tech and in R-Line spec is dropdead gorgeous and perfectly proportioned.

Easy to use touch screen located where you can reach it and an option of a full digital display. The X1 is a good car but this one of the rare occasions when I prefer a VW over a BMW.

Absolutely. Many crossovers have part-time AWD, electronic diffs and no torque vectoring.

With this comparsion U made me realise how dated the center console of the X1 looks. Anyone knows if the Tiguans digital cluster is the same as in the Passat? I was pretty impressed of the quality of that thing.

. Nice test overall. BMW’s Xdrive has come a long way to what we are seeing today, they offer the best compromise between off road and on road manners. I can’t wait to see the new X5 and X7 in action.

While the Bavarian automaker won’t be switching things up considerably when it comes to aesthetics, a chance to modernize the interior definitely can’t be passed up. So aside from possibly new materials/colors, the 2019 X1 should feature an updated infotainment system, improved connectivity and perhaps even better active safety technology. A new three-spoke steering wheel could also be in the cards, like the one from the X3.
Changes to the engine range should help improve fuel economy, while also reducing CO2 emissions, on both diesel as well as petrol units.
BMW is also expected to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the X1, which will likely be called the X1 xDrive25e. It could pair a 1.5-liter three-cylinder 136 PS (134 HP) petrol engine with an 88 PS (87 HP) electric motor, for a combined 224 PS (221 HP). It’s basically the same powertrain as in the 225xe Active Tourer.
The facelifted BMW X1 should be unveiled sometime this year.
