LS [Official] Lexus LS (XF50)

The LS500 has some very unusual and classy interior trim options. I particularly like these 3.

With the Crystal Glass patterned door panels and 3D effect door fabric/leather.

It's not a bad car. The problem is that the gap in chassis and engine technology between Lexus and the Germans have widened to the extent that the LS is borderline uncompetitive. Furthermore the Germans depreciate so hard that you can pick up a well equipped 7 or S for significantly less than a new LS.

The Lexus LS used to be the car that scared the big Germans, but the subsequent models, including this generation havent advanced as quickly as its German opposition and now it seems to be an odd alternative. Its not a bad car, I kinda like its unusual interior and its styling looks better in real life than the pics. Its a very sleek and long car in real life. If I had the money i wouldnt buy one as I am a BMW/Mercedes man, but imagine what this cars depreciation must be like after 2 years.

Make the infotainment as good or better than the Germans, fix the rear light situation, and continuously update the engine line-up, and you'd have winner.

Oh, also somehow magically prevent customers from flocking to SUVs, sedacoupes, and whatever else niche that further breaks up the monopoloy large luxo sedans had their target audience, and this and other large luxo sedans not called S-class would do quite well.

When I was very young I got a ride in a 1998 Lexus LS. It was impressively silent And smooth and was actually competitive against the W140i.

Moving on from that generation of cars I feel like Lexus was very much American cars engineered and developed by a Japanese manufacturer. No wonder Lexus has fared better in the US than in Europe.

Kia cars on the other hand, feel a bit more to the taste of Europeans.

Sometimes Lexus failures have been self inflicted. Their latest SUV, the UX, has a gorgeous exterior design and astonishingly highly inteior quality. However it has a glaring flaw. The boot space is just 320L and shrink to 280L for AWD models.(n):t-crazy2::t-crazy2:

It's a complete joke and all but rules out anyone with children or a dog as a customers. One car magazine said that an Audi TT has more usable cargo space than the Lexus UX.

A VW Polo has a larger boot than the NX at 351ltrs. Sherbet 280/320ltrs is tiny, you could probably not even put a Golf bag in there or Polo bag lol

Problem for Lexus is it's not 1998 anymore. The German's have since moved on at a lightening pace after the initial wake up call. Lexus is barely keeping pace, let alone innovating.

As for the UX interior quality, it's good upfront, abysmal in the back. Probably as bad as the Audi Q2.

As ancient as the N/A V8 is they could have made the LS a bit special with it that would have been this cars saving grace and I do quite like the looks of Lexus' in general.

Agreed. But they needed to make it a touch screen, so they grabbed the tablet screen from the RX.

While having a touchscreen is a much needed, overdue addition, the cheap-o solution is terrible for a carmaker of this caliber.

How about that hole on the side for the autonomous driving radar??

Also terribly executed. They could have made it to look like a faux vent. I mean, if they have no problems doing for the Supra... At least here it serves some purpose.

The only thing I like with this F/L is that goofy-ass lit graphic panel in the front passenger dash is gone. I was hoping they would have updated 1) the Prius-lifted gear shifter, 2) the instrument binnacle in the non F-sport trim, and 3) added more wood trim where that goofy-ass graphic panel used to be. Instead, in the upper trim, they seem to have replaced the origami-inspired felt cloth, which while not exactly my cup of Sencha, was intriguing. Now there's this goofy trim with what looks like a camo print. Perhaps it looks better in person, but in pics, it looks weird.

I tend to have high hopes for Lexus because they have the means to make a great car, but they lack the courage to do it. And they've have made some compelling cars that I've liked in the past.... 1st, 2nd, and 4th gen LS; the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen GS; 1st gen IS; the current GS-F; 1st gen SC; the current LC. I like the current 5th gen LS.... the exterior and interior design is compelling, but there are areas they just fall short in making the LS truly worthwhile. While not a potential buyer, it's just frustrating to see.
