12C [Official] McLaren MP4-12C

The McLaren MP4-12C, later rebranded as the McLaren 12C, is a sports car produced by McLaren Automotive. Manufactured between 2011 and 2014, the MP4-12C was available as both a coupe and a retractable hard-top convertible, the latter known as the "Spider".
wow, impressive. Not soo much in the looks department though, but might be better on the road. On the pluss side, the interior on this car looks a million times better than that in the SLS. Seriously, this interior with the SLS exterior, sweeeeeeeet. :icondrool

People seriously have problem with this interior?

Yea, it is not as driver oriented as the 458, but it is still freaking fantastic and way better imo than this SLS interior.

I love it more than SLS, that's for sure.

But i agree with some here, it lacks something...:eusa_thin It doesn't have that WOW factor apart the numbers, something leaves me cold about it...

But it's a f'n rocket, that's what matters! :t-drive:

Now i want to see Lambos and Ferraris trashed in every single test! :D

:t-cheers:

Considering this is Mclaren first ever entire solo effort at creating a proper sports car, its nothing short of spectacular.

Looks are subjective, it might now blow my socks off but unlike the SLS I cant say there are any angles which make it look suspect. Its a clean design and I love the rear!

I really hope this car spanks the sh!t out of the SLS and the 458 (wishful thinking). It would make for some interesting disucssions! :D

I'm surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for the design over here at GCF. Sure it lacks the emotional controversy of the 458 or the romance of the SLS but there's plenty to love here. Mclaren have opted for a very functional, safe and undramatic design that makes the car awesome of poster duties on children's walls. It looks very supercar-ish while paying homage to the F1 in a subtle way.

My only query with the design is the side mirrors which gives the car the wing span of a Gulfstream 550. Those side mirrors will easily get busted in London traffic.

Gordon Murray was right. This car is a letdown.
I'm more eager to see Murray's new masterpiece instead.

I guess the problem with this Mclaren is that it doesn't look more exciting or dramatic than the F1, and some would say it isn't as good a car as the F1, but then again it isn't suppose to replace the F1. The 458 and the SLS looks a lot better than the model they replace and they are better cars than their predecessors. IMO the Mclaren has a hint of early 90s supercar look about it, it is a bit to curvy and soft, a bit too friendly looking, and the front air intake is way too busy.

In terms of the engineering side, there are some nice innovations, like the light weight brakes, relatively low cost and less labor intensive carbon fiber monocoque, however I don't think these technical specifications are ground breaking. Its one great achievement is that it manage to combine all the technical specification from a hyper car and put it in a moderately priced super car.

There is no doubt in my mind this car will be awesome when it comes to performance and technology, but the looks are simply disappointing . The McLaren F1 was and still is a beauty compared to that this car looks dull.... and the interior is just as bad, reminds me of the Honda civic.... . It has 600 bhp and I have no doubt it will be light imagine the performance if it would weigh about 1300 kg .... :icondrool.
But I hope they give it a major facelift tomorrow.

bland bland and bland.

they've released this 5 years too late. look how dated it looks!

i find it singular as to why most members are disappointed by the looks.
If anything this car is as clear an evolutionary progression from the McLaren F1 as possible, it has cutting edge design cues when it comes to the singular front and rear end, built according to the very germanic principle of form follows function.
moreover the technology is in itself to be lauded. the only possible issues that might arise ar issues of reliability given McLaren's lack of experience with inhouse built engines.
this aside, i am more than convinced that this car is by and large at the very pinnacle of motorsport engineering, and the purity of its design, and its extreme tech and more than a match for any ferrari, or lamborghini, and most certainly the Merc SLS.

It seems that all three recently revealed sports cars (F/MB/MC) bring some sort of compromise to the table, looks/design/interior etc, but what a time to be a rich car nut. Seriously there hasn't been this much choice in a long time, at least since the early 90's. Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, McLaren, Lambor and Ferrari all yielding sports cars at the same time. WOW.

The specs and interior on this car are like they were reading Ferrari's playbook and countered it wherever they could. I'm more interested in the engine. Does it say anywhere what the cost of developing such a car was? I'm really taken aback by this and the SLS.

The only fly in the buttermilk here is the looks, it looks like every mid-engined car before it, something a kid would draw as some others have said. Ultimately I'd have one so I say so what, you can do worse.
