GT [Official] Mercedes-AMG GT

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

This shot right here! The roadster is going to be seriously hot.

What C&D says about the prospects of a roadster:

We won't see a roadster version of the GT anytime soon. That product decision was made to protect the SL, which isn’t selling in anywhere near the volume Mercedes would like and needs a brand-new AMG GT roadster sitting next to it in the showroom like it needs a hovercraft mode. (Actually . . .) But if Mercedes’ brass changes its mind, such a model could be added in very little time.

First off I want to say I'm a huge Mercedes-Benz and AMG fan and love the vehicles and engines, so much so I own one.

I like the AMG GT but I have to say I feel a little underwhelmed and I look at the SLS and the one that LukeSwiss got and I think that vehicle made much more of an impression or even looking at the beauty of the S-Coupe, stunner.

Yes I do like the AMG GT but I felt like there should have been more somehow. Please hold the back the flames. I'm not hating, just expressing my thoughts. I'd like to see it in real life though but until then I'm undecided on the AMG GT.

I really had high hopes for the AMG GT but I guess when finding a next car it'll have to be an SLS.
we should also remember that this is supposed to be the "inexpensive" AMG. This is not a SLS replacement. I think that is what we are reading in the design.

You guys are nuts. This car is GORGEOUS. Far more so than the F-type. It's so fluid. So muscular yet lean. Aggressive yet graceful.

They've nailed the design IMO.

Now I hope it drives brilliantly and the whole Porsche 911 beater nonsense doesn't come to bite them in the ass.

Dissapointed about:

front headlights, too long hood for this car (I like long hood on SLS but not here), "bad" performance (performance for my understandings are great but next R8 will smash it).

I think this car will look better in real life than in photos as the cars flowing lines and curves will be better seen and felt in the flesh. It has got classic 1950's and 1960's styling ques, the long pointed snout and rounded curved rear end with slim back lights. I really like it a lot!

Absolutely stunning inside and out. Straight away one of my favourite cars in existence right now. Really looking forward to seeing it in Paris next month.

I was about to post that I am a little surprised just how heavy it is, but actually, looking at the specs of the 911 Turbo, it's not bad. Boy, I didn't realise the 911 Turbo was so heavy! The GT S is 1,645kg to EU1 standard. My R8 with 4WD and old technology and a V10 engine is 1,695kg.

Mercedes-AMG GT S
510hp
1,645kg EU1
310hp/tonne

Porsche 911 Turbo
520hp
1,670kg EU1
311hp/tonne

Audi R8 V10
525hp
1,695kg EU1
310hp/tonne

EDIT: I've added the SLS AMG figures too for comparison:

SLS AMG GT Final Edition
591hp
1,695kg EU1
349hp/tonne

Performance figures:
0-100km/h- AMG GT: 4.0sec, AMG GT S: 3.8sec
Top speed: AMG GT: 304km/h, AMG GT S: 310km/h

I would reckon the C63 AMG and C 63 AMG S will probably achieve the same figures, which would put it fractionally ahead of the M3/M4.

The AMG GT weight of 1540kg and AMG GT S of 1570kg makes it roughly only 50kg lighter than the SLS which is a slight disappointment in my opinion.

Which 911 models you think this car aimed at, 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S? It is not in the 911 Turbo and Turbo S league in terms of power and performance.

Also I forgot about weight dissapointment. I hope that they will make new, faster supersport model, above AMG GT.

btw. I like SLS more.

Now that I am home from work, I can see the pictures properly on the 27 inch iMac and not rely on the iPhone 5 (on replacement wait for an iPhone 6 Plus replacement).

Car is gorgeous and I love how simple the lines are.

Where is the quad-exhausted model we have seen tested?

The base GT doesn't really have a 911 competitor, unless you include the Carrera S with the power kit. The GT S is perfectly aligned with the standard Turbo.

Its going to be one of those colour dependant cars....bright colours will make it pop, but dark colours (black/dark grey etc) will make it blend in a little too much. Yeah, its a thumbs up from me.

I am going to reiterate what I said earlier: this is and looks like a less expensive AMG-only sports car. It is the "junior executive with an MBA" to the more mature and "upscale" SLS. The GT - SLS experience is way more resolved than the SL - SLK one, but it is a very similar one, in my book.

I admit I do not like this car from all angles, but I also believe this is not fair of me to judge.

It is perhaps the large build-up - a year. I do not want to bring up the F-Type again, but I have to. I have never been a fan of Jaguar; at beast I thought it was an Aston-Martin wannabe, at worst a POS luxury-brand wannabe. But I liked - loved - the F Coupe design the moment I saw it. No such sparks with this GT, and I worked hard to get it going.
