TT [Official] The new Audi TT

The TT feels somehow out of place in today's market, unlike when it was launched about 22 years ago along with the then-new SLK and Z3. Maybe it's the hot hatch market that caused these cars to go out of favour as small sports cars. The current offers today are quite powerful, and with the added practicality, it seems that it is hard to justify the existence of the TT, especially when considering that Audi has the S3 / RS3 range which feels like an in-house competition even though they are in different categories.

I'm not sure if Audi is willing to stop the production of the TT. After all, it's a car that is considered iconic to the brand in the current era, and (I think) helped to strengthen Audi's sporty image in the market (I know that Audi has a heritage in Rallying, but during the 90's the TT was seen regularly on the magazines covers).

What are the sales of the TT like? From my personal experience the car has already been taken out of production, it's non existent (same counts for the Z4 and SLK though).

Still, the interior of the current TT is beautiful and by far the highlight of any Audi interior. A shame the next 992 911 didn't notice this.....

Regarding the TTs' homemarket, it is classified as a "Sportwagen" by the German registration authorities. It outsells its' Z4 and SLC competitors times over-while not being a big seller per se. It is easily outsold by Porsches' 991.2 Carrera line of cars, for example (the top seller in that particular segment). I suspect that combined Boxster/Cayman sales would top those of the TT as well.

When it comes to facelifts it’s fair to say the 2018 Audi TT hasn’t exactly been subjected to the kind of major surgery you’d find lining the walls of a Hollywood dentist’s waiting room.

But then again all three versions of this car have aged very well indeed – first generation models arguably look just as fresh 20 years on.

There’s also very little need for Ingolstadt to be constantly fettling its small coupe. With the VW Scirocco phased out the TT has few natural rivals, at least not with a practicality-enhancing rear bench - although two seat rivals are more plentiful.

Within those strict parameters the Audi only really needs to worry about the BMW 2 Series and Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ, plus the larger Ford Mustang.

Has the Audi TT changed at all then?
A bit of a nip and tuck here and there - a new grille and bumper design, two new paint colours and a different wheel designs to keep 2014’s car looking fresh.

Sportier models (S Line and TTS) get additional air intakes and vents front and rear for additional purpose, although we’re not sure they do anything practical as they’re blanked off.

You do get more standard kit than before – Audi’s Drive Select system, light and rain sensors, multifunction steering wheel, heated door mirrors and the central rev counter layout for the Virtual Cockpit from the TTRS. And light-up USB ports, would you believe.

Any new engines?
Sort of – but here’s where it gets a bit confusing. Like the VW Golf R the 2.0-litre TTS now features a gasoline particulate filter to reduce its carbon footprint, which subtlety changes the noise it makes and more importantly means a reduced power output of 302bhp.

Usefully though you get 15lbs-ft of torque and a new seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox as standard (with no manual option any more) so the 0-62mph time is one tenth quicker, at 4.5 seconds.

You won’t notice the drop in power or the extra torque, because in reality the TTS still rips along at a remarkable pace, in the utterly unflustered way we’re come to expect in fast Audis.

Does it drive like a fast Audi?
Of course, but that’s no bad thing, if that’s what you want. Our test route for this updated model was the mildly terrifying Isle of Man mountain road - the one that gets used for the TT road race and doesn’t have a speed limit, you know the one.
i have a blog that explain about audi tt cafezibaei this so good

Given that you don’t really have any run-off (unless you count a drystone wall or hundred meter drop as run-off) we were quite grateful to be in a forgiving but pacey all-wheel drive coupe.

Confidence-inspiring grip from the standard issue Quattro all-wheel drive makes this a great point-to-point car, with two-dimensional handling balanced neatly with the sensation that it’s got stacks of ability held in reserve.

It remains an easy, but not rewarding, car to drive very quickly indeed, particularly now you get Audi magnetic ride – a more advanced type of adaptive damping system - as standard.

The old car always felt very firm and while the 2018 TT isn’t exactly a limo it’s much better at absorbing bumps without compromising its tidy body control and sharp turn-in.

As a result we thoroughly enjoyed driving the TT on its namesake route on the Isle of Man - although in reality you’d have fun piloting the Chuckle Brothers’s pedal-powered car up there.

In search for a fun car to buy I paid a visit to Audi this weekend. The Audi TT has not been on my shortlist but I bumped into a stunning now that has triggered lust.

It was Nano Grey with a two tone cognac and black interior. WOW! I don't remember last time I've been blown away by an interior. It was like sitting in a concept car. The interior quality and design are 9/10 and beat cars 2-3 times more expensive.

Will the driving experience knock my socks off? Unlikely. There are countless of hot hatches with competency that have eroded roadster sales. However the TT feels special on the inside and looks striking if specced correctly.

Because I have a 3 year old toddler and a baby under 1 practicality is a factor. A usable backseat and a boot large enough to haul luggage for two people or a bike, makes the TT a more rational choice than other two seater cars.

My other options are an M140i or Golf R which are incredible all rounders but look pedestrian unless they are black on black or in a standout colour.

Incredibly sad. The car is an icon: Stylish but with yet with greater practicality than an MX5, Z4 or SLC.

However the writings have been on the wall for it and the R8.

What is going on with the people in the world now? Why they only want to buy boring SUVs and the result is killing off many brilliant small sports cars like the TT and R8?

With its series debut in 1998, the Audi TT made design history.

Now, after 25 years, the last TT Coupé has rolled off the assembly line in Györ, Hungary.

What memories do you associate with the Audi TT?

Such a shame that the compact sports cars are dying out. Audi TT, Mercedes SLK and probably next BMW Z4, what is going on with the industry.

Its slippery downforce was tragic leading to that fixed spoiler. With the passing of the TT are we at the extinction for most manufacturers of the “boutique” car? For the German’s The BMW Z4 and Porsche 718 are the last one’s standing.

People don't need a dedicated sports car anymore to be fast I guess.... it's a cultural change.
1st gen is an absolute design masterpiece.
Absolutely agree here. One of my favourite modern classics on the road. And still a bargain.

Fully agree. I'd go a notch above and say is the most beautiful Audi ever: a streamlined, purposeful design before they got obsessed with uber complicated headlights detailing (and mean looking shapes) and ever increasing grill size.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
