OUT: M850i sold. IN: New W223 S-Class

I also most mistook the Tycan in the garage for a DBS Superleggera. The Macans and twining and winning. Can’t go wrong with that choice of car.

Loan car for the day...

They were fitting the missing GTS badges and pedals on the Taycan...which they still haven't gotten right lol.

Oh well, was lucky enough to have the GTS in the interim. Whoever says the Taycan is an electric 911 is bonkers.

Will you miss the GTS after returning it?

Luw...there is undoubtedly a dimension to ICE that an EV just doesn't replicate. It's a visceral appeal that can not be replaced IMO, regardless of what 0-62mph your EV can achieve.

My notes comparing the 911 to the Taycan GTS
* The Taycan is not an electric 911. The 911 is raw and pure. The steering and agility are beyond what the Taycan can deliver.
* The Taycan feels like a limousine in comparison to the 911. The ride compliance and NVH are not close to comparable.
* The 911 road noise (particularly on concrete surfaces) makes it's daily usability questionable If you're spending long hours in the car making lots of work calls. It would get tiring.
* The Taycan interior feels at least 1 class more premium than the 911. I'm actually surprised at how sub-premium the 911 felt. The door cards, handles and transmission tunnel are particularly poor in terms of plastics/finish. The Panamera interior is king, the Taycan is perfectly fine for it's station in life, but the 911 is just poor and not what it should be.
* The technological suite in the 911 is pretty much on par with the Taycan. The PCM and driver aids both fall well short of what MB delivers with MBUX and their driver aids.

All in all, I think I'm going to keep my 911 GTS order (992.2) afoot. However the AMG GT may be a better bet for me if it can deliver 90% of the 911's driving experience with a classier cabin and a dollop of extra refinement. Let's see how the new AMG GT plays out out against the FL 911.

Couldn't agree more. I find it interesting though how people carry on about the 911's interior being the best thing since sliced bread. Make no mistake - it wouldn't deter me in the slightest if I were buying a 992 GTS but I'd also be reminded at times of the quality aspects I take issue with.

Its not uncommon to hear the same reflections from people who have switched from an EV and then back to an ICE car. In an ideal world I wojld own both.

If you want a GT Sportscar than the new SL is a sweets spot between being engaging when you want it to but easy going enough to drive like a Golf when you want to get from A to B with little mental or physical work.

Mercedes have a poor track record with ride quality in their most athletic cars like the AMG GT and E63 AMG S. Porsche or BMW equivalents tend to ride better eventhough they are on steel vs air suspension. Therefore I expect the AMG GT to be firmer and more visceral than the SL.

The SL is a stunning piece of kit IMO, but I just have no need or want for a convertible. I think I would drive it with the top up 99% of the time.

I'm hoping AMG's recent gains in ride are reflected in the AMG GT, and with an interior that borrows heavily from the SL I think it will feel more cossetting than the 911, and more befitting of it's price point.

It would make sense for their to be a AMG GT for people like yourself who want a hard top SL. The rest of the AMG GT line can ride firmer e.g S, R, Pro and GT-R.

The ride quality of the E63 and C43 AMG were not great but improved with the facelift. It's clear that Mercedes are taking feedback on board weak areas of the AMG GT will likely be improved on.

Another photo thanks to @Monster.

The rear lights may appear generic in some photos but in person they have a beautiful jewel like quality, have presence and they flow beautifully with the rear. No doubt though, a light bar will feature in the update.

Dad looked at the GLS Maybach today and didn't like the seating position, so we didn't bother with a test drive. He has his heart set on driving the dealers G63 next week.
