718 Boxster/Cayman (982) Porsche Boxster EV BEV Electric 2025 Spyshots

The Porsche Boxster and Cayman are mid-engine two-seater sports cars manufactured and marketed by Porsche across four generations—as a two-door, two-seater roadster (Boxster) and a three-door, two-seater fastback coupé (Cayman). Since the introduction of the fourth generation in 2016, the two models have been marketed as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman.
Ok, I thought they where first doing a hybrid like with 911. But good, I hate hybrids, I clearly prefer electric over hybrid. Look what Porsche has been able to do with Taycan and the new Macan, it will be an amazing and effective sports car. What will be most missed though is the boxer engine sound….

I drove my neighbor Cayman GTS 4.0 and I didn't like the engine, low torque and it gets too noisy when you rev it, compared to my AMG GT it felt slow.
I think Cayman EV would be better to drive around town in silence, instant speed, quick.

It looks like a Boxter that's for sure. And that's a good thing.
Now let's see how the market is going to react. It could swing both ways quite frankly.

Yes, it will be interesting to see. I have no doubts the new electric Macan will be a success. But an electric pure sports car which before had an delightful sounding boxer engine….

Oh yeah, the new Macan has nothing to fear. Going EV with that car will end up bing the smart move, particularly in countries like ours.

As for the new 718..... this segment is near death, so worth experimenting I suppose. They are not going to hit the jackpot with this model either way. It's completely niche.

Excellent first year sales and then decline during/after the second year is my prediction. I read prior somewhere else that the 718's largest market is China, so the EV should be very popular over there.

I am looking very forward to this. But then again, I am becoming increasingly skeptical with regard to its chances of being commercially successful. The topic of BEVs and their prospects has become..."difficult". Especially with regard to enthusiast sportscars.

Enthusiasts are going to have to get used to the idea of BEV sports cars, after a certain date they won’t be able to buy ICE sorts cars. This and the Caterham EV are both incredibly interesting to me.

Assessing only the design, Taycanizing the Boxster's mug is.....not appealing. Reminds me of the Toyota MR-S (which, yes, was a take on the Gen 1 Boxster.)

So......will it be a shortned and less practical Taycan, less range but weigh as much?

It looks supid without the air intakes.

Personally, I've always appreciated the unobstructed flow of flank sheetmetal featured on the 911 Carreras and the new Macan EV. Less is more-and this lets the dialogue of smooth, uncluttered convex and cancave surface sculpturing alone do the talking. I would have loved to see this and the Taycans and the new electric Boxster/Cayman. But yes, the designs of the Taycan and Boxster EV are very similar. And I can understand that this could disappoint some fans.

The side intakes are synonymous with Porsche’s entry point sports cars and their mid-engined layout. They add visual pep to the styling along with their obvious function. Without them, Boxster EV is going to look bland and soft.

I clearly see camouflage all over the doors and quarter panels, so this smooth look obviously isn’t the final setup. I can see Porsche maintaining an inlet or opening along the sides and bundling it to aid with battery cooling and/or maintain the visual heritage link, so I think we need to hold out for a few more weeks and wait for this stuff to come off before passing final judgment on something we can’t see.
