Love it! Absolute blast to drive - the best chassis I have ever been in. When I got the car, if a push came to a shove, I would have kept the GT3 without doubt, but not so sure any more. The engine is it's relative weakness in that it feels flat below 4k before it wakes up. The GT3 unit on other hand is a beast, dip the throttle in earnest anywhere and it howls away and scares the living lights out of me. The chassis on the GT4 OTOH is a peach. It will dance to your every whim. Like someone else (Peter Stout - Panaorma editor) put it the engine defines the GT3 experience, but the chassis defines the GT4.

Appreciate the insight. If you were to get rid of the GT3....I'll be honest, I just shuddered at that last phrase....if you were to get rid of the GT3...*takes 3 deep breaths*...if you were to part with the GT3...okay, thought that'd be easier, it wasn't....

Okay, it's like taking a bandage off a hairy chest...if you were to part with the GT3, in the long-run, do you think you'd miss that unique combo which, at heart, is that hero of an engine, or would you long for the sublime chassis set-up of the GT4 that much more?

Honestly, just keep the both 'em! Nobody should be burdened with such a difficult decision!

Yes, indeed, I thought living with both would make the choice more obvious, but it hasn't - it is almost like Porsche made the 2 complementary by design - Engine? the GT3 wins. Chassis? the GT4. GT3 has the perfect steering. GT4 has the perfect shifter. The GT3 feels raw and special. The GT4 is very usable and playful.

You have the money, you own them both, after a couple of years playing find a shop with the skills and mash them together, put the GT3 engine in the GT4 and have at it.

It's just a couple of what will be old Porsches, why should Sunny give a shit about what the cars will be worth in 20 years time? Unless he's planning on not using them anymore and storing them he's not going to make much profit down the line with plenty of KM on the clock, so why not build a better GT4?

Cars are there to be used and abused, not looked at and kept in a garage, if you can afford to own both these cars you can most likely afford to make them better.

No no , you're totally wrong. Sunny should drive his GT4 over the cliff on highway 1 and post the film on youtube. And he will be totally famous as the nutty GT4 driver.. Forza Motorsport 6 ..yeah, that's how you treat your totally awesome performance cars...

That's just being stupid, beside s quick look on the internet and you'll find a couplke of people who have done what I suggested, making a better GT4 with a GT3 engine transplant.

It's just a car, chop it up, make it better, it's only money you can't take it with you when you go and in a couple of decades time you won't be allowed to drive it anyway.

I am sure there are some quality performance upgrades for the GT4, or Sunny can buy a GT3 engine and try to install it in his GT4.

If you have the money to buy a GT3 and GT4 why would you build a cheap sports car? I wouldn't think twice about it if I had a couple of hundred mill in the bank.

I doubt shoe horning the old mezger into GT4 is even practically possible and even if, definitely not worth it. Probably cheaper/easier cannibalizing 991 GT3/RS considering they share the 9A1 engine architecture with GT4. Believe there is a shop already working on it if not already done. But there are far cheaper and easier options to free up the engine in the GT4...

Absolutely. GT4 seems to have a lot of aftermarket options all the way from simple header jobs to 4L conversions. One that I fancy most is the one where they adopted the 991.1 X51 factory power kit for the GT4 - http://www.teambgb.com/category-s/132.htm.

Having said that, while I might fantasize about one having the engine/chassis of the other, at the end, I like the cars for exactly what they are and plan on keeping it that way.

From what I have observed of you over the years, the ideal car for you would be something like a 911R (991). Superior exciting 9A1 engine compared to the old Mezger and GT4 engine, with a 6 speed manual box, along with the superior 991 GT3 chassis dynamics compared to the 997.2 GT3.

With the 911R, I doubt you would think the GT4 is as worthwhile. Right now I understand your desire to keep both the 997.2 GT3 and GT4, as both cars have aspects which are desirable but neither has "everything" on its own. Don't get me wrong, they are both great cars, but I think you know what I mean.

But there is a chance (if the internet forum rumours are true) that the next GT3 (possibly 991.2) will still have a NA engine and the option of the 6 speed box from the 911R. If that is the case, I would consider trading in your 997.2 GT3 and GT4 to get it!

Hi PC, unfortunately no, waiting for the 4 to still complete break in. Work and life stuff has meant hardly any free weekends.

Agree a 991.2 GT3 would be fantastic and would definitely consider trading the GT4 for it - I will miss the mid-engine handling, but expect the engine to more than make up for it. But trading the the 7.2 GT3 would be a much harder sell - I will just miss the rawness and special-ness of the old car too much (for a strictly weekend fun car). It beats you up, but in a good way!

What do you think about X51 for GT4? Increase much the performances OR not for you?
