XE [Spy Shots] 2016 Jaguar XS Spy Shots (Codenamed X760)

The Jaguar XE (X760) is a front engine, rear- or all-wheel drive four-door compact-executive saloon manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque for model years 2016–2024 — across a single generation. The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show. Production of the XE ceased in mid-2024.

Jaguar's future product plans keep on slipping, slipping, slipping onto the internet, and the latest on it's entry-level luxury challenger is a 2015 due date. According to Automobile magazine, "most significant game-changer from Coventry" will be arriving on the same PLA platform that supports the Jaguar XJ and 2013 Range Rover. Kacher says the small sedan has already got the green light as codename X760, and will bow first as a four-door sedan, then as a crossover a year later.

This puts a date to a recent Autocar report that a small sedan and crossover were in the works. We've been getting reports of and concepts for a successor to the X-Type ever since Tata bought Jaguar – like the Bertone B99 concept last year, and this enthusiast concept more recently – since everyone knows it's what has to happen for "a new Jaguar" to succeed. We're looking forward to seeing what the English maker comes up with; if it remains true to form, it could be one of the few luxury competitors whose distinct model each look, well, truly distinct.

This will be the car that puts Jaguar over, if it is done right. Make it a real Jaguar and it will be a hit.

And don't base it on the Mondeo and over price it. The previous X-Type had good intentions but it was terrible value in an era which was dominated by the E46 3-Series. Whoever has been in charge of turning around Jaguar has done a brilliant job. Finally the cat is living the life it deserves. A small sedan with four doors though is the bread winner needed to fund the development of future cars. 2015 is a realistic target year given that Jaguar are probably developing the car from scratch and would need to expand their operations greatly.

I've tried to follow this car but info is at best sketchy, I don't believe it will share platforms with the Ford because it's to use a significant amount of alloy in it's construction which I doubt is true for the Ford. I don't care what anyone says about Jaguar but the XF & XJ in my opinion are better cars to drive than any of it's rivals, technology and some materials is where they fall down but this car should be bang up to date in this. I take real heart in what Tata have done with not only Jaguar but LandRover especially and this can't be highlighted better than with the Evoque and the new Range Rover, these two cars are leading the way in both design, materials used and how they drive.

This new X-type replacement can't fail but to impress.

I am all in for a new X-Type. The fact that I really liked the first generation is one of my dirtiest secrets. A 2.5 V6 AWD is was not faster than my S60, but it was quite good to drive actually, with a consistent tendency to oversteer, as the Haldex used was rear biased. It was a nice car for me.

Rumors of an entry-level, BMW 3 Series-fighting Jaguar sedan have been floating around for quite some time, but thanks to our intrepid spy photographers, we now have visible proof that such a model is, in fact, in the works.

Despite this tester's XF fittings, it's clear that what lies beneath is an entirely different beast. The doors have been shortened, roofline adjusted, rear deck lopped off and exhaust replaced, giving us a better idea of the new sedan's smaller dimensions and details. The new Jag, which may be dubbed "XS," is expected to ride on Jaguar's PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) platform, touting weight-saving materials that should do a lot to keep overall heft to a minimum. Both turbocharged four- and supercharged six-cylinder powertrains are expected to be on tap.

Codenamed X760, the new small sedan will reportedly hit the market in 2015. Earlier reports have indicated that a new crossover – Jag's first ever – riding on the same platform will arrive shortly thereafter, so that suggests that the platform will be fitted with all-wheel drive as well.

Looks/design wise, way to go Jaguar(y) Hope parent company TATA opens their wallets for proper lightweight construction. If they use aluminium in abundance + proper chassis, suspension, steering and powertrain = Winner!

I for one would like Jaquar to succeed. I like Jaquar period. And our German OEM's we all on GCF admire so much could only benefit from proper competition. If the new RR and even XJ is the starting point for a new X-type, she should be good!

IF me was Jaquar(TATA), I will get around the negotiating table with BMW to supply me with some of their great engines. Which ever way you look at it IMO, could be mutual beneficial in the long run.

I've little doubt it will drive and look like a winner, me concern is that each of their past offerings the XF and XJ have been not one but two steps behind their German and Japanese rivals in terms of technology inside the cabin.

Looking forward. Nice to see more quality choice in this segment:

- Audi A4
- Mercedes C Class
- BMW 3 Series
- Lexus IS
- Infiniti Q50
- Cadillac ATS
- Jaguar X-Type
- Alfa Romeo Giulia
- Porsche Pajun

Nooooo Jaguar need their own engines, plus they are building a new engine plant in the UK right now. The new engines will be 4 cylinder petrol and diesel, which is where JLR has issues at the moment, these new ones should sort that out.

I agree with everything you said except about BMW supplying the engines. Jag is too much of a rival for them to handover their engines. But I am glad that Jag is doing this right this time with a proper premium platform.

The 240hp Land Rover/Ford 2.0L 4cyl should be standard the 340hp SC V6 in the middle and then the 380hp version on a sport/S version. If it looks the part and it built right, this thing will fly out the showrooms.

Aha! Didn't get that memo. I agree then, under their own engine power.(y)

I wonder why for anything else than VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, there is always an "if". How is it the german don't have it?

For some people they just view German is somehow better at everything. There's no doubt the Germans are bloody good but they definitely don't have the monopoly. LOL
