Spy Shots [Spy shots] BMW Neue Klasse Coupe

It reminds me a bit of the Z9 concept.

I think the car will be a flop. The market can be unforgiving to “new“ car shapes. You say it’s a coupe shaped shooting brake. The average person will think it’s a hatchback.

Remember the 5-Series Granturismo? Poetic marketing and linguistic yoga by BMW executives in blazers and low top trainers couldn’t convince people that’s it‘s a coupe. Changing the name from 5 Series GT to 6-Series didn’t solve the issue that the car is ungainly and big as an MPV but has less rear headroom than cheaper 5-Series Estate.

Absolutely ridiculous comparison on several levels.

Let me try again. Here we have three other attempts at revolutionising coupes. Neither survived more than a generation.

What ever this car, it looks slim......until you recalibrate your eyes by looking at a 911 or AMG GT.

I am not a pessimist but am struggling to see any upside to the shape:
-Jacked up like a crossover and as heavy but not as practical.
-Attempting to look like a supercar and priced like one but not as sexy.

You’re absolutely right, don’t know why you even bother arguing with fanatics that applaud every single thing BMW does, no matter how bad it is.

*And btw that’s coming from a BMW fanboy

It’s too Japanese Coupe Isuzu Piazza in its renders. There is something going on underneath the panels. Either influenced by the Turbo? Or the M1? Let’s try to solve the puzzle from my perspective.

This rendering from @stylecrocodyle provides a comparison with the M1 and you can begin to see influences and iconography.

There is no way the rear window will be left like this. As an icon it has to be intensive with design not bland and non-descript from a BMW.
No there must be an hof-kink element under there placed higher on the rear belt line. The higher position could be a factor with its Electric drivetrain.

The rear completely covered on the prototype leads to the inclusion of an M1 louvred false panel or a completely flat deck with buttresses like the Turbo. It won’t recreate the floating look like the i8 nor the swing-up doors.

If there are significant iconography under those panels then it would far less bulky and sleeker.

Yes, I also think this render is too «little» BMW. At least I hope it will get a little kinky Hof-kink. Oh yes.

Perhaps a bit OT...But...

Had this come to fruition as a production car, I suspect that I would have IMMEDIATELY purchased one back in those days.

But you didn't buy an 1er coupe which is pretty much exactly that???

Make no mistake, I really liked and continue to like the E82 coupe. My very favorite RWD 1er to date actually. But when it finally made its appearance in production form, I had long committed myself elsewhere. But back in 2002, the situation was a bit different and I think that I could have very quickly "pulled the trigger" on the car featured in the video. That is, had it made it into production.
