Spied: BMW's 7-seater 1 series GT

As weird as it sounds, BMW will soon unveil their first 7-seater vehicle, the long version of the 1 series GT. Expected to be introduced at this year's Frankfurt Car Show, the 1 series GT will be offered in two configurations, seating 5 or 7 people (the 7-seater will be officially introduced six months later), both will be based on the UKL1 platform, shared with the MINI line-up and some upcoming BMW models. This means that the 1 series GT will be FWD, yet this has been confirmed since the 1er GT was previewed in the form of the Concept Active Hybrid 1 series GT.

What we seen in these spy photos is more or less the same car as the 5-seater, with the only differences being behind the B-pillar, as the rear doors are longer for the 7-seat version, as is the rear overhang. The back of the car is also more upright, making it more spacious. Under the hood, we expect the recently announced family of 1.5l 3 cylinder engines (B38 for gas, B37 for diesel fuel) as well as some 4 cylinder powerplants. A plug-in hybrid version, that combines a 1.5l gas engine with an electric motor powering the rear axle, is also rumoured.

As a former BMW-driver; this hurts:cry:

@ Klier; if you have any influence in München, please use it and let them stop! I mean, this is a disgrace for anyone who h as a heart for this company.

Freude am Fahren, but not in this .... thing.

I don't understand the commotion and all these negative, non constructive reactions.

I hope BMW sells a lot of these cars (to new customers) and hope they take away a lot of customers from the "dynamic" brand that produces also taxis, the Smart, B-class, Vito, Viano, and trucks.

Best regards.

The anti-BMW mentality:rolleyes: Well at least the Audi brand seems to be getting the neutral treatment as of late. Or maybe it's the fact that at entry level (A1,A3 Hatch, Sportback and Sedan) are 2 decades ahead of the A-class/B-class variants in terms of design and also perceived and tactile quality. @Tumbo:sneaky:

Nevertheless, back on topic. It's obviously the most polarizing BMW of our lifetime the 1er GT. I don't have to start on the BMW-UKL platform, nor like or try and defend the concept. From a business point of view and the bare fact that VAG has the Touran and M-B has the B-class it's was only BMW AG's next step towards sustainability and growth becoming a player in this segment - that's called LOGIC;)

Will also be not surprised if it becomes the segment leader, it's after all a BMW.
And you do remember that: "You can stick a BMW badge on a dead cat and it WILL sell":D
That is called BRAND CREDENTIALS and BMW already being the most sought after brand on the planet:cool:(y)

Maybe I must enroll for a MBA, I am really thinking seriously about that. Have it before I turn 40. Companies needs revenue and if its a FWD mom's-taxi so be it!
