Impreza Subaru Impreza Design Concept

The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that has been manufactured by the Subaru since 1992. It was introduced as a replacement for the Leone, with the predecessor's EA series engines replaced by the new EJ series. It is now in its sixth generation.
How did Subaru get the Liberty so wrong? The bland, ugly Lexus GS'esque creation is clearly a step back from its rather attractive predecessor. :t-banghea

The Impreza looks comparatively acceptable even if it is HIGHLY generic. It's clearly a case of been there done that by countless other manufacturers.

Why is Subarus design department so lost?

Martin, do you have a hatch or Sedan? I find the hatch rather attractive thanks mostly to it's BMW derived styling cues.

I saw it. Nice looking, and interesting for a Subaru. Hands down THE nicest Concept Car was from INFINITE though.

Without question, the Legacy (Liberty)'s predecessor was the better looking vehicle. Subaru, for what ever reason, chose to distance the new model both aesthetically and proportionally from the old car. The emphasis with the new car lies less in sportiness and more in luxury and comfort. Hence the distinctly different in-the-tin persona of the new car (and its GS-aping looks). Legacy / Outback is doing very well for Subaru in key foreign markets for FHI like the States and Australia.

The Impreza is the last remaining remnant of the ill-fated Zapatinas era. Someone, somehow, managed to convince the FHI board that Subaru's internal design team was incapable of creating designs that were both attractive yet quirky in the idiom of the car maker's spirit. And so, blob-eyes and hawk-eyes and shield grill pig snouted motifs became the order of the day. This set Subaru back 10 years in my opinion.

I have the WRX hatch - an ill-received, plain-jane but utterly wonderful all round vehicle to commute, drive enthusiastically, road trip, whatever, with. It's only rubbish on a track. Everywhere else it's sublime. For what I paid I wouldn't have anything else. It's one of the pre-facelift cars so its chrome detailing is naff and it looks tame. WRX STI hatch on the other hand is fantastic in one's presence - it's actually a damn good looking thing. IMO of course.
